Discuss the KawaNOW National Rally for 2011...

Does anyone have a rough idea how many folks attended the rally in Custer?

***Never mind, did a search and found it! 75 people on 55 bikes! Nice crowd!

Just wondering if I missed an announcement on where the rally will be?

Eastern TN/western NC. Roughly somewhere near Deal's Gap (the tail of the dragon). We have team of trained, highly skilled scouts out looking for a good venue city for us as I write this.

Where ever it is I'll be there, can't wait. Don't gamble or drink, so one of the smaller places would suit me fine. But I don't mind watching others gamble and drink. Stay out of trouble that way. Just want to ride and make new friends and see older ones.

I'm heading in that direction tomorrow. Plan to poke around and see what I can find.

Anywhere in the Smokies is great. Fantastic riding. If Deal's Gap does not have the accommodations, Maggie Valley might be an alternative. They have a lot of motorcycle rallies there.

Did I read something recently that Maggie Valley is talking to Myrtle Beach officials about how to minimize the number of motorcyclists coming to the area?

Myrtle passed a helmet law and noise ordinance aimed at making bikers feel unwelcome.

The helmet law has been struck down and MB must now pay back all of the helmet fines and court costs. SC determined it was unconstitutional on the state level.

Derrick at the Applecover in Maggie Valley heard a rumor that some businesses in Maggie wanted to try the same thing.

This rumor has been squashed for now.

As of last weekend Maggie is still extremely biker friendly.

I was with the small group in the smokies last weekend with Tim (Dragonchaser). We stayed in Maggie valley and hit Cherokee, Hwy 28 (my favorite ride east of Mississippi), the dragon, the Cherohola Skyway and discovered another great ride (hwy 360 that runs south out of Murpy TN) We left out at 9:30 AM and were back at hotel in MV before 6PM. And we did a lot of stoping and gauwking and tee shirt buying! The Applecove isn't big egough for 50 plus bikes but they are real nice folks and would good for an overflow if we choose Maggie Valley.
And there were plenty of stores, restaraunts, bars, motels and comping area all within the city!
just FYI ::)

Amy and I have been doing some scouting and looking. Maggie has several small hotels...none large enough for much of a group though, although they are all pretty close. Amy made a contact with someone who owns or has interest in 2-3 hotels and some restaurants around the Cherokee area. I was in that part of the State today and check those out and really like them. They are about a mile and a half from the beginning of the BRP and right on the little river that runs through Cherokee. They are outside of the Harrah's area (so not that main drag) and would be great to have the hotels that close. Campgrounds are within a few miles too.

Nice restaurants etc.

We are anticipating more at this rally so we will need a lot of room for ride staging, check-in, ride meetings, etc......

Stay tuned ..... we are getting it surrounded.

Have you thought of Townsend TN. About 20 Miles from the dragon. 3 or 4 miles from the Foothill parkway. At the entrance of Smokey National Park. The town is small and less crowded than Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. Townsend has motels and campgrounds. The road to get there is easy and a four lane road through Maryville. Here is a link. http://www.smokymountains.org/. It just a thought.

Thanks to those folks who are putting in their personal time to find the right location. When found I hope that a new threat will start so we will know where we are meeting. Thanks so much for doing this for us all.
