One problem for me with any of the sports touring or Goldwings is leg position. I can't take that position for long. Even they may have every do-dad thinkable and power up the wazoo I will never look at them.

Boy Joel.... I feel the exact opposite about riding position. The taller and more neutral position is a lot easier on this old body. The laid-back cruiser position is a lot of pressure on the tailbone after a few hundred miles.

That's funny. I can't take the cruiser position for long. I don't have much padding on my ass and my pelvic and tail bones hurt shortly after riding. Even with a Mustang seat, I could do may be 120 miles without stopping on my Nomad, stock seat 60-75 miles. As crappy as the BMW seat is, I can do about 200. The feet under me creates a suspension of sorts and I can handle the bike better by using feet and knee pressure that I never could do on a cruiser.

Deals can be made for a few thousand less on those if you shop around, but the same could be said of the Victory's too. I look at in terms of price brackets: Under 20K, 20-25K and over 25K. There are bikes and good values in each. it all depends on what one wants to spend.

I might be able to justify that kind of cash for a bike if I lived where I could ride more months out of the year.
Maybe someday when I become a "snowbird" .

Just saw a 2012 BMW 1600GTL on craigslist with 27K on it. They are asking 16K for it. That's almost a 8-10K drop from new. That's not very good resale value. Just putting that out there...

The reason for the lower resale on the first K bikes is that they had some issues that were later worked out. I wouldn't buy a 2012-2013 K bike and even with a newer one I'd get an extended warranty to take it out an additional 4 years. If something breaks, it's going to hurt if the owner has to pay for it. The R bikes are a better bet for reliability and are lighter/handle even better, but they don't have the power and torque of the K1600. I do know of a few K bikes of that vintage that have over 100K miles on them already, so whatever the issues, it's not universal. Then again there are some BMWs with 300-500K miles and the original engine.

I figure I have eight years of riding left after I get a BMW. It looks like BMW sells bikes like cars and have different ways for owning a bike. One that I am very interested in is the Lease like buying. I could trade in the bike after 4 years and get a brand new one keep it for another 4 years then sell it. Two bikes for the price of one... kind of. Not to mention that would also make it eight years of warranty coverage. "3ASY RIDE BIKES THIS INCREDIBLE DESERVE FINANCING THIS INCREDIBLE Do you wish you could always own the newest models from BMW? DO YOU WANT TO BE ON A NEW BMW EVERY FEW YEARS? If you love riding the newest bikes from BMW, then 3asy Ride* could be your ideal financing option. Because with the 3asy Ride* 48-month plan, you only pay for the partial value of the bike, so you could always ride the latest bikes for low payments; and at the end of term you could trade in your bike for another new BMW." |

but riding position is the only way to go with our ageing bodies.on another note I am hoping that one of the planned short rides for Monday will be a drag race between myself and brads oh so powerful 900 pound cruiser with no traction control.i predict that while his rear tire is spinning my c14 will just easily leave him in the dust.

Geez Bob...in the immortal words of Billy Crystal...."It's not how you feel, it's how you look". How can you possibly ride if you don't look cool doing it...??...😊!
