I rode from Minneapolis Minnesota to Escanaba Michigan in November. Basically crossing all of Northern Wisconsin. It was nighttime. Didn't have a thermometer so can't give actual temps. There was snow in the woods and icy patches on the road and deer running every which way. I had a duffelbag full of clothes strapped on the back. By the time I reached my destination (8 hours later) the bag was empty and I was wearing everything that had been in it. EVERYTHING. 2 pair of long johns, 3 pair of pants 3 seatshirts, 3 pair of socks, scarfs, mittens etc. etc.
I was 20 something at the time and on a mission. Wouldn't ever try it again.

12 degrees a couple of years ago is my coldest thus far. My car wouldn't start and had to get to work (25 miles north of me). Thank God for heated gloves and the windshield on my Mean Streak. So far on the Voyager, 27 has been the coldest and those same heat gloves were awesome!

My coldest ride was 12f last year on the way to work. I had a snowmobile suit on so my body wasn't too bad, but my hands were frozen by the time I arrived at work. It was a 25 mile trip on the highway and if I ever decide to do that again I'll put some hot packs in my gloves to help stay warm.

It was only 65* here yesterday . . . Just kidding.
On the Nomad I would ride down to 20* with heated gear. That was by choice though. Now I have cars and motorcycles. In 1979 I lived in Spokane, WA and my motorcycle was my only transportation. There was a good enough snow to shut down the busses so I rode to work on my Suzuki GT-550. I didn't go very fast, dropped it twice, but without major damage. Pretty sure it was single digits, cant remember +/- 0. Later that year I made a set of chains for that motorcycle. My friends said I was nuts, but none of them were offering me a car so I kept riding.

A couple of years ago in mid-June I left Arizona going to South Dakota. Started at 105F(40C), in the middle of Colorado it was 0F(-18C), and came back to Arizona a couple of weeks later to 115F(46C).

Last February, we had a Patriot Guard mission in Baltimore for a firefighter. When I left Thurmont, it was 5 degrees. It had warmed up to 14 degrees by the time I got to the church.
I have a Gerbing jacket liner and glove liners--and layers of other stuff. Except for annoying drafts in my helmet, I was ok until I had to unplug from the bike--then I got cold for a while until we started walking around.

I’ve ridden to work before sun up (1/2 hour ride) at 10 F and dry roads.
If the roads are wet at sundown I won’t ride the next morning if the temp is below 32F. On a weekend group ride, we usually don’t head out until the temp reaches high 30’s. With the heated gloves and jacket liner, the road conditions are more of a concern than the air temps. |

More than likely in the 20's, when it gets down in the teens it's time to get the Truck out....
