It's not a real big deal. You'll probably need to get another clutch side cover gasket even if you're just doing an inspection. Mine came off in pieces although others were able to get it off and reuse theirs.

If you decide to tackle it, let me know. I can email you some really nice photos and written instructions on pdf of the step by step process you need to get at it. If you have a 99 with more than 20,000 miles on it and the POG, you'd better figure on doing something with it though. Either a JOG or weld on a SOG. Mine had 20,000 miles on it and was pretty much shot. My inspection turned into a JOG once I saw how bad the POG was getting.
So judging from the picture the POG must be driven from the clutch assembly,i assume that the cog on that is metal.

lol. me thinks he's Canadian so almost related.

Back to the thread tho, mine has 77K on it, motor was rebuilt at 69K but because the PO ran it dry. I'm replacing the shocks because they're old and tired but other than that it runs great.
Point of fact, after not touching it for the entire winter it fired first crank!

Getting round to shock's,( at the risk of pissing off the queer fella )mine have never been any good, they bottom out on country road's all the time,i have them on preload 4, 30psi, i assume that they are f--ked, so what would you bloke's recommend as a replacement.

I know!......Hey Mick, I've got progressive shocks on my year 2000, 1500 which lower it a bit and narry an issue with bottoming out, even with my little Kelli and my big arse on there and all our gear.......Which brings me to this. 65000 miles on that particular bike, lots of traveling with lots of stuff. She still runs like a scalded dog, gets great milage and uses absolutely zero oil. Even still looks great.


See, we can do it all here.
