I have a simular nightmare of equal importance. Do I have a nicely ironed riding shirt to wear on my next ride???

I don't worry if I even wear a shirt when I ride, let alone a pressed one. But I always have a compressor and plug kit on the bike. So far Ive never had to use it, but its there just the same.

Here's a cheap kit at Dennis Kirtk:
http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_ca....fCatId =&mmyId= You can get new cylinders and plugs at Wal Mart (sporting goods and Automotive section). I would recommend getting the T-handle for the plug reamer and installer. It takes some force sometimes to get it in. Zoom45

Ambien is good medicine!
Got stranded once on the Nomad with a flat tire before I knew there were portable 12V pumps - no fun. Cost - rental car, trailer tow 60 miles, new tire and labor, but had planned on spending the night near by any way. |

I, carry a air compressor on trips but not a repair kit. After reading these posts I will be getting a repair kit. Just had the compressor with me so I did not have to find a gas station if I needed air. Never had to use it for myself however did use it twice for other riders.

Thanks for the links MMacccc....
That Slime thing seems to be good and cheap, included cigarette lighter not so good according to some reviews there. Those air cylinders seem to be a better option,I'll try to find them. Also the repair kit, maybe I sleep better then. Would be the first time to buy something I hope I never need. |

I'l take the air compressor any day over Co2 catridges. Mine got me out of a bad place and others out of their bad places. Nothing to thro away on the road either. Nothing to cake up with white mung oxide either, so if you do go with Co2 chargers, oil them and the tool too at times as most are cheap alloy pot metal.

I also carry the slime compressor and plug kit. Make sure that you get the mushroom plugs. The only time I've used mine was to help out a Mississippi rider on a Sunday afternoon.
I much prefer the compressor over the CO2 cartridges. Before you rely on the cartridges, let the air out of your tire and find out how many it takes to bring it up to a safe riding pressure. I think that you'll find that you need a lot of them if you use the little CO2 cartridges for BB guns. |

A cautionary note: In a recent motorcycle magazine I was reading a review of a tire plugging kit. They said that the 3 CO2 canisters that came with the kit were only enough to inflate the tire to 26 or 28 PSI. I strongly recommend spending $25-$30 to get a pocket compressor, like a Slime unit. It's only about the size of a paperback book and you can inflate your tire to whatever pressure you prefer. It's cheap insurance.

A compressor can make air indefinately, a co2 cartridge is a one use item. We can find 12v compressors on sale at Canadian Tire for under $10.00 sometimes.
