I opened the fill cap while the engine was idling and the noise was louder. Putting your ear by the opening will let you know if it is the pump or not.

To hear the pump on a 1600 is cake.. Just place any 12 inch extention against it and yer ear to the other end of the rod...

The 1500 is a but not much. Place the rod as close as you can to the pump on the flange..

If you do this with a good pump, and again with a bad it will be evident.

Whether or not these can be repaired remains to be seen, but they are not meant to be repaired.

Never haing heard a bad pump yet, I think what we will find is bad motor bearings first, and 2ndly maybe a bad impellor shaft bearings. I weill see if i can run thus bad pump today.

Hi Mac, You can take apart the components of the pump assembly but it looked to me that the actual pump part of the assembly is a sealed unit. You can take almost anything apart but I dont think this is serviceable. I will be interested to hear your findings. I think it is actually a "o" ring that leaks that makes the noise. Where the pump goes into the plastic chamber ?

The first question out of the service managers lips was "Have you ever run the tank dry"? I told him that I had never run out of gas and my fuel light has only come on maybe 1/2 dozen times in 2 years. I've ridden about 15 miles with the light on pulling the trailer on the Natchez Trace. It wasn't by choice. There just wasn't any fuel around. That is when I filled up with 5.2 gallons. It was close, too close.

5.2 gallons is real close..... Never have I been able to stuff over 4.8.

And yeah I thyink a dead pump is gonna be a dead pump by the looks of it, but then I am crazy, and sometimes crazy people find some off the beaten path to fix things. In this case I doubt i will, but I will try asap.

The past couple days my back is at it, and slowing my life down.... alot.

I did sewwing this morning on my luggage to clean up how it goes on the rack. I drilled holes in the van's window sill for new curtains and the cherry coffee tables... (pine really)

My wife has this little problem about fornication, and no curtains, I don't know why. She's got paper, what more does a girl need?

She's upload new pics of recent topics too, like Idahos lift adapter, my womens purse on the screen, a rear shocks air gauge, and the laid down plate.

Just how much use these will be I don't know.

Brought the Nomad to the dealership this morning for the fuel pump replacement. I'm working the next 7 days so I'm hoping to have it back by next Tuesday.

Supposed to be....If it isn't, I'll look for one on ebay and keep it on hand for if/when mine fails. I'm fairly certain it is covered by the Good Times extended warranty. The service manager gave me the impression it was when I stopped by to tell them about it the first time. If Kaw tries to weasel out I'll sure put up a fight with them.

Fuel Pump Whine

Service manager just called telling me I could pick up my bike. Nothing wrong or abnormal with the fuel pump. Go figure. Started whining a month ago. Doesn't do it all the time, just occasionally. Might know it wouldn't be noisy while they have it in the shop. I did pass it on to him that the whine was intermitent. Guess I'll have to wait until the noise is constant or until it leaves me on the side of the road.
