Riders down

Riding at "events" typically can cause more accidents because of the riders' attitude and attention-span is distorted or distracted.

At events, many riders are not as focused as they normally might be, due to the many extra activities, sights, and distractions that occur.

For anyone second-guessing whether they should attend a rally or bike-event... I would suggest riding your bike within your limits and do not get caught-up in the distractions that tend to lead to accidents (This was mentioned somewhat in a previous post as "ride your ride".)

Also, when it comes to large bike-rallies or events; there are plenty of riders that simply are "accidents waiting to happen".

Unfortunately, alcohol, drugs, and bike-speed are more prevalent during these events -- simply because there are a certain number of idiots that go to these things and "let-loose" beyond being reasonable.

The underlying facts of these accidents seem to back-up these statistics. Sad but true... ::)

To my knowledge, none of these occurred during official bike week events. These weren't on group rides or even near Cyclefest. These were just folks out riding and it wasn't their lucky day.
