That......was no fun!!

I've also had my share of wet rides, couple downpours and what-not- but lightning... eh. Me go hide now! I'm mucho happy that I have a cage to drive when there's lightning. Glad to hear you made it safe to tell the tale though!

I'm hardheaded. If I had to do it all over again I would probably do the same thing, except this time I would put those damn pants on, too.

Glad you made it home safely and glad you gained some valuable experience. I have ridden in rains lots of times through the years. I can remember when the rain would hit your face and feel almost like you were being shot by BBs. This was back in the day before most bikes had windshields.

Jamie, I don't know what it is about Mississippi weather. Last year when I was going to my daughter's in Texas I hit a hard rain at Brandon. Waited under an overpass for over an hour. Started out and made it maybe half a mile and there it was. It was getting dark and I rode like crazy and stopped and spent the night in Brandon.

Coming back from Texas I got to Meridian and hit put on my rain suit and kept riding. Rode through the rain but kept the rain suit on the rest of the trip.

This year on my trip to Texas I made it fine to Texas but on my return trip I hit rain just west of Meridian. I detoured and went to the town where East Central Junior College is located. Fueled up and headed back to the interstate. Missed the rain outside of Meridian but when I got to Tuscaloosa, AL it was lightning and thundering. I stopped and got fuel and then the rain hit. I waited at the service station hoping it would stop. After an hour or so wait I put on the rain suit and headed out. Went about ten miles and it stopped. I kept the rain suit on and made it home.

Just something about Mississippi and the rain when I ride through.

The worst rain I've ever hit was on my cross country trip this summer. I was coming off the blue ridge coming near Roanoke Va. There was tornado warnings in the area and was getting gas when the skies turned black. Though my intended route was south, I looked at the skies and there seemed to be a cloud opening in the southeast direction so I decided to head that direction. While riding that direction the clouds came over the mountains from both sides and couldn't avoid a torrential downpour. It got so bad I pulled into a gas station under the canopy and waited while the rain just pelted the area so bad the canopy was shaking pretty good, swaying 6 inches to a foot either direction. The gas station lost power. The roads became streams with 6 or 8 inch levels and people were just staring at me as if to say look at that poor guy, or was it idiot. I waited until the rain let up where I could see a little ways in front of my travel direction. It was late in the day thank God and went for the closest Motel I could find, which happened to be about 25 mies away.

Alabama, yeah, the weathermen here don't have a clue, either.

Jamie, you and I and Mitch will have to plan a ride together one of these days. I lived in Meridian for over three years but owned a Honda 650 while there and traded it in for a Goldwing from a dealer in Forest, MS.
