I hope he did ok. I was thinking of making the ride from home to Custer an Iron Butt. It is just about 1100 miles. But then Netnorske said we should stop along the way and drink with Canadians.

Well I'm back. Safe and sound. No problems. The Nomad performed flawlessly.

Time for an oil change now.

Ok ok ok. Maybe I should give a slight better ride report. :)

I guess I can give a few more details. We started out at 4:15 am and got home done around 11:30pm. We ended up going the route planned. Up I-15 to I-80 in SLC, then down US 93/6 to Tonopah, then down US 95 to Vegas and then back up I-15.

I rigged up some hand deflector because I was concerned about the cold weather and I don't own heated gear. They worked amazingly. I put hand warmers inside my glove and didn't have any problems with the 30 degree weather in Tonopah. (I was hating them in the 90 degree weather in Vegas)

Each of us carried a 1gal gas can just in case we needed it and at 120 miles after Ely and about 40 or 50 mile before Tonopah we pulled over and put it in our tanks. Most likely we would have been just fine, but one of the guys on a VTX1300 would have been on fumes by the time we got there

We could have been done sooner but we were taking our time and enjoying the breaks. My lowest mpg was 34 and my highest was 42 mpg.

Today I feel physically just fine. I'm young--24. You should see the other two. :) My face does feel dry and my lips are chapped, but that's about it.

--(Not much more of a ride report) I did take some pics

This is the end of the day. We're all still smiling.

Tahat's very cool. Nice pics, those are good looking bikes. Did you do all the documentation to submit for the award? I really want to do this.

Iron Butt ride

Sounds like you guys had a good time, Ive thought about doing an Iron Butt ride someday, but it would have to be the right day. I have driven long distances like that quite a few times in the car or motorhome but nothing over 550 miles on a bike. I guess a comfy seat is a must before I attempt something like that.

The mustang seat with backrest and highway peg are what made all the difference. They allowed me to move around and adjust to a bunch of different positions, which my the ride very comfortable.

Glad you made it safely. I would love to try a ride like that, but stock / Mustang seats would pretty much have been the end of me after a couple hundred miles I think.

Very nice ride it seems like though.

Iron Butt ride

Way to go. I've done over a thousand miles in one day but did not plan on it so I never got the patch. Have several days over 800 miles. It is surprisingly easy to do. Take breaks, drink water. Small meals. Energy drinks help.

Glad that you all made it safely. That is always the biggest concern on one of these rides.
