No riding this summer?!

Every time I read a story like yours it just pisses me off. How screwed up it is when insurance companies and worker's comp get to make choices in medical treatment instead of the doctor and the patient! Makes me mad enough to spit bullets.

I hope you get the surgery done and get healed up quickly enough for some riding late this summer or fall. But as others have said, take it slow and let your body heal.

No riding this summer?!

nubbs, I had a similar experience.

Long story as to how the injury happened but the end result was that I tore the tenons that attach the mussel to the top of the shoulder. {I can't remember all the tech names]. When the doc went in he found the problem to be worst than he first knew based on the MRI. Had to have bone staples to reattach the tenons. All in all it was not that bad. After the first week the pain was not to bad, that's what drugs are for. I was in a sling for 6 weeks with PT two times a week. After about 6 weeks I found that I could ride my bike but had to be very careful. End of story, the operation was on March 28th 2009 and by the end of June I was out of the sling and riding again. Now the problem is completely gone and I'm glad I had the surgery. So hang in there, it will get better.

Two things I found difficult with the whole experience.
1 - I'm right handed and it was my right arm. Learning to wipe my ass was an experience!
2 - My insurance paid everything except the bone staples are considered implants even though they dissolve over time. My insurance would only cover 50% of implants. My share of the 50% was $750. Everything else was covered completely.

No riding this summer?!

Suffered a set back today. Had an allergic reaction to some deoderant the other day and have a nasty rash on my armpit ...same arn I need surgery on. Dr. said I cant have surgery until it is cleared up and I am off the meds the family Dr. gave me. So now I have to wait until at least the 3rd of May.
Someone hates me.....and doesnt want me to ride at all this year!! lol

Do what the Dr. says (within reason). Don't reinjure your shoulder trying to ride to early. You may be able to ride but what if it starts to go over? Let it heal and do the physical therapy, it is a pain in the butt, but will pay off later. Hope everything works out well, you'll be back in no time.

No riding this summer?!

surgery went very well. once they got in there it wasnt as bad as they thought. only had to do some cleanup on the bone and rotator cuff, no cutting and reattaching the bicep tendon like they thought. so should hopefully be riding by the end of august!

Great news. start polishing up the bike and get those mods done that don't interfere with your recovery.
