I think the 2008 is 5.3 in size. The reason I asked the question regarding how much fuel was needed on fill up was I thought Nomads are known for not being able to use all fuel on board. Even though the tank is 5.3 (or whatever) he may have only used 4.8 (or whatever).

I was trying to figure out how much (if any) unused fuel was "trapped".

Good point Greg, I am sure it didn't take 5.3 to fill it.

When we were in Elkins a few years ago, I was at 185 miles and my low fuel wasn't even on yet. Thats the best mileage Id ever had on that bike. It was all at speeds under 50 mph.

I have the same mods on an '07. I've done 212 on a tank and right at 200 several times using non-ethanol 87 octane. With 10% ethanol, I can't make it to 200 riding 2 up. I've done 44.4 mpg riding 2 up on 87 pure gasoline.

how many miles with a full tank

Just last week I rode 194 miles and my light hadn't come on yet, so the mileage you mentioned sounds about right. When I filled up with 194 miles, it only took 4.18 gallons too. :)

I mentioned this on another thread, but on my most recent Nomad I have been averaging much better MPG. Not too sure why because all the mods are exactly the same except this model is NOT a California model. I always get over 40mpg.

what reserve? when the warning light comes on, your simply on notice. If you don't notice your notice, you're tank will runneth dry. :) I know you knew that but I'm sleepy and had to type something and get the blood flowing again.

Where we were riding in the mountains that day most of the ride was around 40-45mph. It was rare to get over 50 for a few seconds.

Carbed Nomads have a reserve. The '99's were all carbed and have a reserve that we all hit somewhere around 125 +/- depending on what type of riding you are doing and if you are solo/2-up.

Don't get in the habit to ride with that yellow light on. That pump wants cooling by the fuel itself. A test on a rare occasion is ok. Before such a test it would be a wise idea to dump the tank and inspect what comes out.

The last thing anyone wants is to suck up concentrated munglings.

My best is 198 to the yellow light first flicker, and it flashed once, in a mile I got more gas. Most of that ride was at or under 50MPH.

06 1600 spector set up, coasters, TFI (old solder on) V&H baggers with baffels. CT, and full syn oils in both the engine and gear box. I forget if I had crash bar covers on that day or not.

I never fill over 1/2 inch abouve the tank plate. I find more than that just goes out the over flow and drips making a Royal Mess.
