Sorry to hear of this Rick. I understand how the vacation thing works, as I had a similar situation. I hope you can get it resolved to your satisfaction.

Hope it all works out for you Rick, guess it's all perspective and whatever you are used to.

In my industry, golf, we are lucky to get any time off between June and Sept let alone an entire week. I am less then 2 hours away from the rally and might not be able to attend because it's mid week, the busy season and I start very, very early in the morning, so unless my Super gives me the Friday off (and I'll have to work the Sat) I probably can't go either.
Hope to see you there!

I hope something goes my way but I'm not holding my breath. I am looking real close at the 2011 calender and the contract looking for anything that I can hang my hat on.

And don't feel too bad Bud but unless I'm mistaken, weren't you in Custer for the National? I believe we met there didn't we?
I love how I make such a big impression on people.

Yes, I was in Custer but barely remember it. (at least that is my excuse)

It would still be nice to meet you all over again.

Rick when you were off were you on Workman's comp, or sick leave? I can see maybe not accumulating vacation on Workman's comp, but it shouldn't make a difference if it was sick leave. At least not in the union shop I worked in. When the guys in our place couldn't get the time off or had disagreements with management, they found a doctor, told him they were depressed and just took the time off with a doctors note. Not saying you should do this, but it worked at our place a lot.

I hear what you're saying Norm. I was on Workers Comp, but in our contract it says you don't accrue vacation time after a year on WCB or sick leave. I get 12 paid sick days for the year, that's it. { I know some people don't get any paid sick days and I should consider myself lucky. I'm not trying to start anything here but I'm sorry if you don't get paid sick days}
Anyway, we have to put in 120 shifts in order to get vacations. I could go off on stress, sick, like you suggest but it would be a battle as I'm still fighting WCB. about the injury and the ramifications it puts on my left hip and knee. My problem is I have 8 weeks of old vacation but the employer won't let me take it in the summer. I'm working on it. I found a small loophole in the contract last night and I'm going after it from another angle. I have my fingers all crossed. I've always said that when you have no faith you have to have hope.

Now Bud, I'm sure you're not a drinker so I have to assume it's old age setting in. Anyway I hope to see you there too. I'll be the guy on the Blk. Nomad.

I guess I don't have to keep this under my hat anymore. I am hoping you will find a way to make this work Rick. I was hoping to ride with you to the rally.

Well I never really thought it would happen but it has. The Union and I fought the long hard battle and won !! I got my summer vacations back where I wanted them, so I'll be going to the rally !!! yes sir!!! It's a long story but I found some language in the contract that held up pretty good in my favor and we went to the grievance table and made a deal where I got my old vacations considered new ones, and I have till Mar, 31 of 2013 to use them. I also got the vacation postings that I had signed for, in June and July. So, although I didn't get to cancel the spring break weeks just finishing now, I got everything else I/we were after. Now, without a Union I'd have been dead in the water. I am so thankful !!! So according to Blowndodge I should cancel going and maybe more people might show up. Well Brad I'll be there out bidding your sorry ass on all the door prizes.
Anyway, the rest of you com'on and get going in making your plans to attend. Brad even you are invited. Or was it just too far. ???

Bummer Rickyboy, anyways your building them up for next year. 6 weeks vacation and 12 sick days.... I knew I was in the wrong job all my life! lol. But I'm semi-retired now and can hang it up anytime I want now, the only good part of getting old :)

I'm looking forward to the Canada trip and I would still go even if everyone else had to cancel!

I hope something works out for you and enjoy that new house,
James

*edit* just seen your last post... congrats!
