Vance and Hines Baggers

I run up maybe to 3,700 rpm to get moving pretty good, but settle in around 2,700 rpm to cruise my back roads. The baggers are a little louder than stock then, but not much.

2,700 rpm in 5th is about all that is legal here and in some places that is pushin things.

I get a decell kackel if i roll off hard. I could rown that with fuel if I wanted turing up pot 3 on the TFI, but i don't.

With the same ease and for the economy I just roll off mostly and hold a little throttle leaning out the waste mix to nill, UNTIL some cage trys to kill me, then I let it tawk.

Cagers don't like bikes that spit and pop, and act up. Cagers are library people, and don't deal in tat stress any. They think something is wrong and clear the hell out and that means stay away from me. I like that.

But I do not try to ride loud.

It's bound to happen sometime 'nother. If you're lucky like me you'll get selective hearing.

I quieted my V&H pipes down by taking them off, selling them and installing stock pipes. I much more enjoy the ride now. Even made a few bucks on the swap.

They are too loud for my taste, but to each his own.

Try re-packing the baffles. I used (2) pieces of Ø 1/2" stove door gasket 10 feet long. I wired the gasket to the slots in the baffles and wound it snugly around the baffle and wired it in place on the opposite end. Then I covered the gasket with a package of fiberglass mat used in auto repair. I held the fiberglass mat in place with mechanic's wire. This dropped the exhaust note and reduced the sound and tinny sound. It now purrs just louder than the wind noise blowing around my helmet.

I installed these quiet baffles and they gave me about a 7db reduction accross the rpm range. The baggers sound better too.

V & H doesn't offer them for the baggers. You may get lucky and find a set on ebay if you're patient enough.
