No shifting possible
I put a little scratch on the shaft and the clamp so that I could get them lined up where I'm used to feeling them after a take apart.
I can't remember if the floor board has to come off to adjust it or not, but I agree that if the heal lever is too low, it will bind it up even if you use your front lever. Perhaps it is getting enough movement to partially shift and clunk, but not enough to get in gear. If that is the problem, it's an easy fix. I just can't get down to my bike to have a look at it, but I've picked it up after a repair and felt that it was in the wrong place, just not as wrong as yours. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

I did remove the floorboard when I adjusted my levers, come to think of it. That's only a couple of bolts.

If something that was working before you worked on it no longer works, you trace your steps back. Sounds like your mechanic did that.

Stupid idea: Wonder if your mechanic put the wrong kind or not enough oil back into the motor.
Better idea: Are you rolling when you try to shift? Can you force it by holding down on the back shift lever and easing the clutch out to get it to go into second while moving? What about the clutch hoses/adjustments? It almost sounds like the clutch isn't disengaging all the way. Got enough brake fluid in the system or have you tried bleeding it?

Sounds like you need a second opinion from another local wrench. May cost you a few bux but may be better that all of the 'wisdom' that we are spouting. No offense intended gentlemen. (especially to you guys with little feet)

Good luck - let us know what becomes of it. I agree with Idaho, you need a second opinion. When they find the problem, take it back to the first guy and show him.

This is just a shot in the dark, BUT with the engine being removed, does the clutch slave cylinder need to be bled? If the clutch is not engaging then you would not be able to shift.

I will let you guys know. My best guess is that the engine was resting briefly where the fork shifter is and slightly bent it. Will find out. The mech ordered a new fork shifter.
It's hard to get a second opinion when the bike is in pieces. :( |

I am so unhappy. Turns out it wasn't the shaft shifter. The problem is inside the transmission. That is where the clunk is from. The shaft shifter wasn't bend. Something blocks it from shifting from 1st to send. All other gears are fine. Dunno what to do now.

Does that mean I need a new transmission?

maybe not. Maybe just first and second gears since those are the ones not shifting> Good Luck.
