Meet up March 20
Gail and I will make the meet up as well, we will probably hook up with Mike and ride up to meet Joe at his motel. Joe, if you have your camper ready to dry run, you are most welcome to set it up in my yard/pasture and save the motel expense. Since I have a hitch, now I have an interest in getting one too. chuck

Thanks Swift Boot, Actually I'm testing a flat bed trailer to transport my bike to the meet in Georgia for the forum ride to Virginia. I'm looking to cut out 10 hours of I-75 riding. Boooooring ;)
Think Mike's testing out pulling the camper.. |

I think I'll just ride the bike.
Chuck, I'll meet you and Gail at 9am at McDonalds like last time. It will take us about 30 min to get to that exit.

Meet up March 20
Yippee! Looks like a good group coming together. Majeff may be meeting up with Tammy and me and riding in to the hotel.
Joe, when to expect to be at the hotel? Some of the Long Riders may want to meet up for dinner Friday night. They are going to 3 Bananas in Crescent City on Saturday.

Meet up March 20
So....I got a 5X8 utility trailer that I wanted to use around the house anyway and planned on using it to transport my ride. You know the trailer, mesh floor, fold up gate in the back. Lawn guys use them everywhere. I spent hours this week modifying the wheel chock to slide the front wheel in when the bike is in transport.
So...I load her up for a test tow and she doesn't fit! Too long and I can't fold up the rear gate! Now I figure I can buy a few inches if I take the wheel chock out and again...bike too long, doesn't fit. Now I'm getting a little frustrated. Last resort, I load the bike, turn and lock the front wheel, and presto. the gate closes, with no room to spare. Front wheel does rest against the railing of the trailer and I don't think it's going anywhere. Now the dilemma is can I tow the bike safely without the wheel chock and the front wheel in the turned position? I'm going to give it a shot, with secure tie downs everywhere. Another day, another adventure. See you Saturday.. |

Does it fit corner to corner? I had to haul my C50 once and it was 3 inches longer than the trailer and the gate would not close. It fit corner to corner and the wheel was secure.

" corner to corner? "
Now that's interesting. Not much wiggle room on the trailer with that beast but I'll keep it in mind when I load up Friday... On second thought...If it's in corner to corner, than how do you move the rear wheel toward the center of the trailer gate to back it off? Can't pull forward and back wards to to move it. Can't lift the butt of that baby, maybe Coach can but not me. We'll see... ??? |

I have seen many bikes on trailers and in the bed of P/U trucks with the kickstand down and front turned. Use plenty of tie-downs and you should be ready to go. When i picked up my '01 nomad, pulled it on a wooden floor trailer and nailed a short 2x4 on either side of the rear tire although I dont think it was going to slip anyway. It does not appear you have room to detach the gate/ramp, but it will act as an airbrake going down the hiway in an up-right position. chuck

you could get a welder to cut the front rail and put a section up there for your chock and the tire. I have seen this done on some of the same trailers.

Joe, I believe that Trip has a trailer like the one you are describing. He had an extended section put in the front for the front wheel to go into. I couldn't find the posting where I saw a picture of it. (Sorry search function.) Might shoot him a PM and see it that's what he has and if so he can probably send you a photo of it.
