Knee Injury Question

Dave

I've had sx on both knees, ACL transfer on the right (multiple pins) and torn cartilage in both. Whatever you do don't put it off... The longer you wait the more damage your doing everyday!!!

Knee Injury Question

My Wife was learning to ride, fell, and messed up her knee. First Doc said it was a strained miniscus and some hairline fractures. He put her in a brace for 6 weeks. Turns out he was a complete idiot. 2nd doc looked at it and decided she had a torn miniscus and partially torn ACL. He scoped it cleaned everything up and a few months later she had to go back. This time we were under the impression she was to have complete ACL reconstruction, but when the doc came out informed me he did a different proceedure called Shrinkage. Basically I think you singe the ACL and it shrinks up and tightens. Well, that lasted about 2 weeks, and now now in 3 weeks she is going under the knife again with yet a different doc. Damn, I wish to God she never rode a bike, and she likely never will again. Man, I hope both hers and your surgeries are both successful. Good luck, and what ever you do tell the doc under no circumstances to do the shrinkage proceedure on you. a quick search of the internet will tell you it fails in like 90% of all patients and they end up needing full surgery later.

Knee Injury Question

Four knee reconstructions and one scope job between the two knees. Ended up without kneecaps.

The scope job was for a "bucket tear" a year ago last February. From diagnosis to surgery took 30 days. Took about an hour to trim up the meniscus and polish up all the rough bone surfaces. I even got to watch the whole thing on a Hi Def. monitor.

This was the first surgery I every had with a spinal block. I would recommend it to anyone. You come out of the operating room sharp as a tack without any grogginess. Just have to wait a 1/2 hour for your legs to wake up.

Surgery was on a Thursday and I was back to work on Monday without complications.

Knee Injury Question

I had it done this spring if you recall. My problem was it hurt when sitting for extended periods of time in a 90˚ position. Would get stiff and hurt when I would get up and would take a while to walk out. The MRI confirmed it. It was torn in three places. He fixed it...But it's not perfect. Better than it was though. Physical therapy is a must and you must do what they tell you to do and do all the exercises at home too. If you fail to do the exercises at home, your recovery will be delayed or not up to snuff. Ice is your friend too. I would ice it after exercise and at the end of the day for almost two months after the surgery, which is about how long it took until I could honestly say it felt sort of normal. I will also say getting to the gym when you get clearance would be good too. If you have any questions, shoot me a PM or email.

I think I tore it swinging my right leg over the Nomad seat and twisting my left knee at the same time. Maybe more than once. It didn't hurt at the time, but now it is very painful!

Surgery will be arthoscopic with two small incisions near the knee.

Has anyone had the same kind of problem? I just wonder how common this is. BnG
