Rally Attendance

Well I have looked a little harder at the route and have the distances from my house broken down as follows, with a late start on Friday June 11:

Fri June 11 to Pendleton, OR……….300 miles

Saturday June 12 to Ogden, UT…..520 miles

I don’t really want to ride much more than 500 miles in a day….been there done that (640)…and it is too much saddle time to be fresh the next day.

Sunday June 13 to Cortez, CO……..380 miles

Jared has graciously offered to hook up with me in Provo as I come through and ride the last 300 miles together. I hope he has his bike fixed by then.... ! J/K Jared....it will be fine I'm sure!

Idaho (Bud) has expressed interest in riding some of the way with me as well. I'm trying to talk him into riding to Cortez at least for a day or two.... ;)....but we'll see. I'm hoping to at least meet him for lunch on my way through if nothing else.

Looks like you guys have some great rides planned! After planning for the NW Rally....it will be nice just to show up and play follow the leader... ! I've been pouring over the area on Google Earth and it looks great....very different from this area but awesome nonetheless.

I expect the weather to be very iffy as well, no? June in the Rockies I would assume means daily thunderstorms somewhere (ala the Black Hills)....but correct me if I'm wrong. Anyways....I'm looking forward to the trip fellas....and it will be good to catch up again with those I met in Custer!

I've figured out my route to Cortez.

Sun, June 13 - Early start, 417 miles to Cortez, via AZ-87N/260/277 to Holbrook, I-40E to Gallup, NM, HWY 491 N to Cortez. Arrive in Cortez mid-afternoon, just in time for beer.

Thu, June 17 - I'll leave Cortez and either ride back the same route to Phoenix, or deviate and come back through Springerville and the White Mtns. If I take the longer route, I'll spend a night in Pinetop or Showlow.

Looks like Bud is going to meet me near the junction of I-84 and I-86 west of Pocatello and ride about 100 miles with me down 84 before turning north back toward his place up I-15. I gotta cover 350 miles that morning before hooking up with him though.... ::). It will be good to see Bud again. Last year I hooked up with him in Wyoming and rode the last leg to Custer together (along with about 5 others).

Thanks Daryl....it will indeed be cool to hang for a couple days! The opportunity came out of left field, so I thought why not go for it. I really enjoyed my ride to San Bernardino, CA and back last summer....and this will be an equivalent distance, just further east. I have never been to Utah or the Colorado Rockies, so riding through there should be very interesting!

Out of the 1200 miles I gotta ride to get to Cortez....the first 800 of it will be ground-pounding the Interstate, so that will be kind of a long boring ride, other than I'll be seeing new country along the way! At least riding by myself, for the most part I can do 80 and ride tank to tank, unless nature calls in between. That should help scoot me right along. I got to make twice as many stops if the missus is along... ::)...but thats all good too.... ;).

Has Trip mentioned if he is gonna make it? Heck....he is a lot closer to Cortez than I am..... ;)!

Kris,

Haven't heard anything out of Trip about Cortez. The ground pounding does get old in a hurry but those last 400 miles should be better. And then wait until our rides.

Once you meet up with me in Provo, it will be a nice the rest of the way. Hwy 6 through Spanish Fork Canyon is a crazy road! You'll like it! We'll have to stop in Moab and have lunch or if we have time, possibly ride through Arches.

Sounds good Jared. I will be ready for something other than Interstate by then...whew.... ::)! I've been trading some PM's with Tombstone (Ken). I'm hoping to meet up with him once I leave Ogden for the ride down to meet you for breakfast! I gotta go right past him so it should be a no brainer... .

Are you saying I'm a no brainer or meeting with me is a no brainer? ??? I suppose either one is pretty accurate!
Haha! See you the 13th :)

There is no problem with you and your friends attending the rides. Hey, the more the merrier. Everyone brings their sense of humor and joy of riding and we are good.

I hope the Harley rider has a sense of humor. He might need it.

You can remove the "tentative" from my name. I'll be there.
