I use the inner fairing. I have 4 speakers, sony marine stereo, power plug for my gps, voltmeter and two signal lights. Wiring is the same as any aftermarket stuff. I ran pwer wires from my fuse box.

Here are the pics for connecting a water gauge. I made the adapter from a pre soldered 1/2" copper plumbing Tee. The bushing was soldered into the Tee and I cut the hose and installed it with a couple gear clamps.

I did something similar for the oil pressure unit as well. I tee'd the pressure sender in so I have the gauge as well as the stock idiot light.
