I re-used the old ones. If your careful taking them off and not "spring" them, you can re-use them. I also have the set that goes with the aftermarket u-joint, just in case.
That's odd.... The shaft on my 01 had plastic clips if you can call them clips at all.

So far as I know the clips only come with a replacement U joint.

The stock set up has injected plastic locks which break the first time a U joint is removed.

I got lucky on my 06 and it has a fully lubed U joint, and is still free in all planes so far as I know today. I can only see it during times of inspections, just like everyone else.

The next service will be when I can get the bike out of the trailer it winters in, and that won't be for a good while yet. :(" title="" border="0"/>

U-Joint Screw Up???

Hey Mac, on my '05, and Dk's '08, the retaining "C" clips are steel. All 4 of them are on the inside of the assembly. The only plastic that I recall is the dust seals on the caps, and the "C" clips are in a groove right above the dust seals.

U-Joint Screw Up???

My 01 and my 6 don't have any clips......... Nada..... I can only wonder if some bikes got steel clips and others didn't. I would not understand that a bit.

Ma Kawii won't warrentee a U joint and replace the whole friggin shaft. I know and I had one that way with the 01. It seems the dealers have no idea there are 25/25 dollar U joints you can stuff in there..... Beats me.
