Sorry to hear of this, but glade that you are OK.
I do hope that you get a fair shake with the insurance. It seems a shame that this is the result of someone else's negligence. A couple of years back My brother ran over a wooden pallet that had fallen off a truck. he stayed upright but the pallet exploded into pieces. The bike was damage free and we continued on. We came across two more pallets in the middle of the highway, but never caught up with the truck.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate it.
I just got back from the ER. A bunch of stitches in the palm of my hand. I'll tell you... stitches and shots in the palm of the hand are not any fun. I was like a crying baby in there Damn it hurt. Still does... at least until these pills kick-in. No broken bones; but my chest is killing me, and my face has some scratches across it. Doctor said I should feel a whole lot worse tomorrow; and I believe him. The aches are starting to intensify. It looks like they put something down on the road where it happened. The oil or whatever it is covered about two-thirds of the lane-width and went for about a mile. As mentioned; cannot figure what it must have been. I was not going very fast... just getting into third gear when it happened. Rear tire went out to the left, to the right, and then back again before completely laying over and sliding on its side. It slide until it hit the side of the road then rolled. I, on the other hand, practically planted my face into the pavement but turned my head before it happened. I was glad I was dressed as I was and had my helmet on. I don't imagine I would be writing this otherwise... given how hard my head hit the road. I'll try to get picture tomorrow if I can walk. We'll see if I can walk then. I looked at the bike again and it doesn't look all that bad; except for the fact that just about everything on the bike has either been bent, broke, or scraped real bad. It is sitting in my garage until the insurance adjuster comes around. My insurance is supposed to pay for replacement if it is totaled. Given replacement part cost on these things... it just might be. I do get a rental if they are going to fix it though. I just hope I can ride in about six weeks from now.

Greg glad your wife was not with you at the time. When I had my wreck I was black and blue all over from rolling around under the truck. felt ok at first but by the next morning could hardly move. I think the helmet saved me.

Wow Greg! I'm glad you're alright. I know how you feel about those shots and stitches in the hand. When it's in the fingers it really hurts like crap! Hope you heal quickly.

Greg ......real sorry to hear about you mishap!!!!
I hope you heal up quickly and get back on the road. Sounds like a write off. I had a small spill and the total was almost $8,000. I'm sure your HD would cost more than that. Were you planning to attend the National next month? Are you still? Get well quick my friend.

Hope everything heals quickly. Too bad some cars couldn't have found the slick spot before you came along. At least they put stuff on the road hopefully to prevent any other accidents.

Thanks again everyone.
I am extremely sore this morning as expected. Have found a few more spots that are bruised and sore. Basically, everything hurts at this point, and I am on heavy medicine; so I suspect a short lay-up for me. I have never seen anything like this oil in my life; nor had the police officer. That road is heavily traveled by motorcycles, so we were all concerned about it; especially at night. It was like trying to ride a bike on ice... impossible to keep the bike upright. I am just real glad I wasn't moving very fast and was dressed correctly (all but not having my gloves on -- which will never happen again). Also, I have to say that I wish everyone here would consider wearing a helmet if you don't. I know they are uncomfortable, and not really "cool" looking; but they can be a life saver. I truly believe mine was in this situation given how hard my head hit the pavement. Witnesses said the fall looked bad and they were afraid to come up to me at first after seeing my head hit the road, and all the blood and scratches on my face. Again, thanks to all for your condolences. I'll try to get pics up someday. I mostly just wanted to remind everyone to keep a sharp lookout while riding. Talk soon... ;)

Just because you CAN ride without a helmet does not mean you should. In my young and dumb days when I rode an old 1969 HD Sportster...there was no helmet law here and we would not have been caught dead wearing one. Older and wiser now....I would never ride without one. Helmets are a good thing....cool or not. Thanks Greg and hope you heal up soon.
