GPS discussion for a near Luddite

I am with Ballast. I got a Garmin 155W on a ram mount for under $125. Works great when looking for a city address or a POI like gas or restaurant. I still use paper maps and Google maps for palnning.

I'll leave the discussion of the most flexible GPS to others. In my case, I had a Garmin 260W (wide screen) for my car even before I bought my bike.

As for installing, I used a RAM mount and a cigarette lighter kit I bought at Walmart. The lighter has a plug in it for when it is not in use. I attached it to the back of the windshield with one of the windshield screws.

I have the Garmin 255w that I've used in the car, but have yet to mount to the bike. That will be coming soon. I didn't get the lifetime maps when I bought it 2 years ago, but I will be purchasing the lifetime updates this spring. Its super easy to use, and as far as the trip, I usually just put in one leg of the trip at a time. When I get to a town, I usually do some sightseeing and it will be nagging me about having to recalculate. When I'm done sightseeing, I just punch in my next destination, whether its an actual address or just the name of the city.

How did you connect the cigarette lighter kit to the bike, is the other end compatible with battery or socket?

Thanks,

My solution for a glare and dust screen came from Staples. It was a contact or recipe card box costing under $4. I cut off the top and modified it like this.

That's for a Garmin Nuvi 255W on a Ram mount.

Gee thanks. The black plastic even matches the ram mount.

Man, this GPS stuff is kinda overwhelming. I'm reminded of when I finally decided to get a computer, and learning what everything meant.
