tires

I have a 2004 1500 Nomad. The original rear wheel is 3.5 inches wide and stock tire is 150/80-16. The original rear wheel went bad and I replaced it with a rear wheel off a 2006 Nomad that has a 4.5 inch width. I have had two different 150/80-16 tires (Dunlop D404 & Michelin Commander) on it and I can't tell any difference in the ride or handling.

Let's see, how can I say this??? ITS A LIE!!!!! Call it a myth if you want to be nice. But it is pure BS. There are lots of theories out there but in reality they don't hold water. IMHO.

What kind of mileage are you getting on the Nomad rear tire? Ruby is coming up on 12K miles and the rear is showing it. Betty, my previous bike (Suzuki M50) made it to 13K before a tire change. But she was a much lighter bike. I love the ME-880, awesome grip and good mileage.

HA. MacMac would have been an honor, for me anyway. Mac may have been insulted.

I have an ME880 150/80/16 front and back with 40/42 psi. Size is standard for VN1500. Seems steady and good at cornering. I like wider tires so when this on needs changing, I will look for 180/70/16. Good idea????

The 180/70 will give you a little taller tire (about 12 mm) over the 150/70. Taller tire =larger circumference it will change your speedo accuracy some.

I'm almost ready for a new tire on the back of my 2008 Nomad and want to give the Avon Cobra a try based on the many positive reports posted on this forum. It looks like most are running the 180/70R16 so I would assume no clearance issues with a slightly wider tire than stock (170/70X16).

Has anyone tried to fit the wider 200/60R16 Cobra tire on the Nomad and will it fit without problems?

Secondly, because the Cobra is a radial tire and the existing Excedra on the front is bias construction can you mix them? I know that they say that you can't mix radials and bias ply tires on a car , but what about a bike? The front Excedra's got lots of tread left and really don't want to replace it yet if I don't need to.
