Damn, I live in South Carolina and the rally is in South Dakota, I move to Washington and the rally is in North Carolina. I hate that I'm going to miss another one.
Beautiful area around Maggie Vally. Enjoy the rides and the rally.

Guess I am first leaving for the rally. I will be on the road early tomorrow morning. Going to take my time and do some sight seeing on the way. Looks like it will be high heat and increasing humidity as I go east. I was hoping to get away from the high 90s and 100 degree temperatures. Wish everyone a safe trip and looking forward to meeting at Maggie Valley.

Sometime in the future I hope to make a rally. Those of you that are going, have a great time, and do ride them safely.

2 week countdown...

Long day yesterday, 427 miles from Chandler to Albuquerque. Not really a bad distance until you add the mitigating factors. From about sixty miles west of Gallup, NM to 60 miles east, there was heavy smoke from the Arizona fires. Visibility was down to a couple of miles to give an idea. Smoke inhalation on a motorcycle is no fun, I am still coughing up the crap. Pity the poor rider who had asthma and went through that area. Then the heat set in on top of it just to add to the misery. The wind was blowing just the right speed so the heat from the air, cement, and the bike all stayed directly around me. By the time I got to the hotel I was done for the day.

Got up early and left Albuquerque by 6am. Pulled into Amarillo just as the heat was starting to crank up about 1:30. I-40 is not too bad anymore. Mostly smooth, not too much traffic for a Sunday. Wind was not bad, either. Keeping the speed about 77 give or take a bit and getting around 37 mpg. The speed changed to 70 in this section of Texas. Saw a couple of highway pigs for the first time on the trip so they must be short of budget money. Good thing I had slowed down.

Planning on doing the same thing tomorrow, get up early and try to beat the heat as much as possible. So far the ride is going okay. Sure looking forward to next week. :)

Be safe and enjoy the ride... remember you are creating memories and the ride through the smoke will become a good story that will grow over time.
