Single intake, fuel processor, reed valves removed and cobra true duals are a nice set up. Horse and torque increase ..probably but not much. What you do get is a better operating motor..cleaner accelleration, nicer sound. Is it an improvement??? for me it is.

Yea, somethin' like that. I'd have to go find the CD for the Map to be sure. If I remember Grace is sitting at about 74 HP.

"Nightmare" (VBA South Central Assistant Region Leader) has the factory turbo (prototype?). I haven't heard of any "kit" to do the same.

You both have bright Green Nomads. It should be easy to find each other.

Thanks all for the replies.

Cactusjack, thanks for the photo's of your poor departed Nomad. I was wondering what the pipes looked like up close as all the photo's I've seen on line look like the heat shield for the rear cylinder is similar to the stock Nomad pipes which your photo's confirm. I'd prefer the separate pipe look of the V&H but who knows.

I'm not really looking for more top end but more seat of the pants throw you off the bike when I crack the throttle type of feeling. I really like my Nomad but when I open it up it just does not put a grin on my face the way my HD use to. And no I'm not really interested in buying another HD, while they have more power and accessories available I like being a little different [at least that's what I call it] not part of the pack and the Nomad fits that side of me.

You are all prob ally correct in that I will not get $600 worth of extra HP from the Cobras but it might satisfy me enough not to sell my 07 Nomad for maybe $7 to $8 grand if I'm lucky and spend another $12 to $14 grand on a Strat!

Anyway only time will tell.

I dont think you will ever be happy with the Nomad because its a Strat that you want.

redjay, actually the Strat S is the only Cruiser/touring bike I can find, in my price range, that looks like it will fill my need for more get up and go but still be comfortable enough for my better half. The Nomad is my first cruiser. I've always had self built HD Hot Rods setup for stop light racing and bar hopping! My wife never rode with me until 3 years ago she expressed a desire to ride. So I bought the Nomad so she could come along. Now we always ride together and we both love it so going back to a sporter bike is not going to happen. I kept the last HD for several years just so I could get my adrenalin fix every now and then but I finally decided to sell it 7 months ago as it was just sitting most of the time and needed some maintenance that I did not want to do.

Now I find I still have the need for speed, at least acceleration. Have also been looking at a used V-Max just as a second bike for that rush but would rather have a bike like the Nomad or Strat S that fits both our needs and still will put a grin on my face.

If the Nomad had more power increasing options, say better cams, I would diffidently stay with it. Yes, I know all it takes is Money to get HP but Not with the Nomad. To much work and money.

While on the subject... anybody know anything about putting a Mean Streak cam in a Nomad?

I've been doing a lot of research on the differences between the Nomad and Meanstreak (1600s). There are some, but the cams are not one of them.
Nomad front cam part number 12044-1200
rear cam part number 12044-1494
Meanstreak front cam part number 12044-1200
rear cam part number 12044-1494

The heads (including valves) are different (bigger ports and valves), the intake manifolds are different (larger diameter throat), transmission gearing is different (first 2 or 3 gears are lower ratios) and the ECUs are different. And on a Classic 1600, the only difference between it and a Nomad is the size of the intake, it is between the size of the Meanstreak and the Nomad.
I hope this little bit of info is helpful to you.

Cliff, so from your research it sounds like a Meanstreak 1600 bolted into a Nomad with the Meanstreak ECU might be the trick. Of course the change in gearing with the weight of the Nomad and passengers may be an issue.
Interesting.

Just add some nitrous and be done with it That should give you the extra "oomph" you are looking for.

I've riden a meansteak, and a vlucan classic and nomad. Actually several of each. None (tho I love my nomad) are anything remotely close to fast (or even a little zippy). Forget the Vmax and the engine mods on the Nomad and the stratoliner. By a 10 yr old 650 ninja for a $1000 (or something like that) then run it thru the gears a couple times once a week and then take the wife out for a cool drink and lesiurely ride on the nomad!

Thats the truth Ross! My brother has a Zuki 1150GS and I took Marie for a ride on it and took 2nd and 3rd gear wfo to 10K rpms each gear. She was in terror and studdering for a few minutes afterwards. Not unlike seeing my johnson for the first time!

Nothing like 40-110mph in 5 seconds to get your blood pumping. But afterwards it's cruising on the Nomad...
