My brother works for GM and just had their pensions frozen. All they got was a weeks vacation. I'd stay the 6 and get all you can get. You'll still have plenty of time to work.

Of course the flip side is that as we get older, it's harder to get a job period. Agism is alive and well. At the Age of 50, an employer will look at you as more of a liability, especially in technology, which tends to be more youth oriented than some other career areas. On the other hand, if you want to work as a contract worker, that could work out.

To elaborate on what I said previous, technology in criminology and police work has grown tremendously in the last ten years. I think doing a lateral move to forensics and CSI type of stuff would be a good idea and very doable.

TC a desk job would be great however there is no room for advancement at my PD. All the desk jobs are currently taken by guys that are nowhere close to retirement and have no plans on giving them up.
I am working on trying to land some side jobs doing IT for the added experience.
Again thank you all for the advise.
You could apply to other departments. I would imagine your pension is a state pension and you could work for any PD in Indiana.

I always worked a full and a part job, after 35 years at the full time job I was eligible for retirement so I grabbed it before they made changes to it. Now no stress from that job with a nice monthly income. So now I only work my part time job which for the most part I enjoy. Career change like Tim would say, maybe, but to me its retirement.

When it comes to retirement, Tim only knows what he likes.
Whatever works for the rest of us is reality.

My family will put me on a hand truck after I reach room temperature and wheel me to work every weekday. Like weekend at bernies, just no party.
