600 miles, Am I Ready For Full Synthetic?

It's in. Cleaned the screen which had a little metal on it. Put the Supertech longer filter on as well which claims it cleans 2X as much as the leading filter (probably Fram) for $2.44. I'll leave it in until I reach 2000 miles and go with the Mobil 1 synthetic.

As long as your break in is complete go for the sin, you will notice a big difference, bike shifts better, clutch funtions smother when hot and bike sounds different.20w-50w is your best bet for high temp. riding.

600 miles, Am I Ready For Full Synthetic?

I actually just changed mine last night, right at 4800+ miles, and went with the Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w50. I took it for a nice little morning ride to run errands, and thought it ran great.

Oddly enough, it only took straight up 3 quarts. I changed out the filter as well. Following the manual and the assembly instructions it showed it should have taken 3.3 quarts, but the level indicates it's about 1/8in below the high mark. I've checked it three or four times, and even took it for spin to make sure everything was tight. Which brings me to another question....

The manual and even the assembly instructions said 13 ftlb on the oil plug. Is that accurate or should I go tighter? It seems fine now, but I just don't want to get down the road 80 or 90 miles and have the engine seize on me. Anyone? ???

600 miles, Am I Ready For Full Synthetic?

Is there a minimum mileage needed to or suggested before going syn? I have not seen any references other than the 10000 mile reference above.

Did you change it resting on the kickstand or have the bike level? The manual states that the engine should be vertical with the ground when changing oil.

600 miles, Am I Ready For Full Synthetic?

IMO 10,000 is a tad over due if you wanted to switch. On the other hand I would run dino for atleast 1,000 miles if not more.

Based on rebuilding about 1,000 vw bettle engines I would have to say 1,000 miles is the bare minimum. IMO it takes 1,500 miles to break in a Nomad engine and tranny..

IMO the gear oil should be changed each time the engine oil is. IMO this gear oil should be filled on the side stand as well, and NOT dead up straight and level. For the fussy guys, maybe a wood block set to be closer to dead up straight but still on some leaned over angle..

IMO the first 7,500 swingarm service should not be skipped.. Ma Cowy is some wicked stingy with grease!

Inb my case I waited over winter for a new rear tire and it was deado... I was over 7,500 by apx 2,000 miles, and for my wait I have a rusty swingarm bolt, and so is the center spacer. Just a little more grease would have prevented that...

So long as i am at bitchin' I have to bitch about NO tail light mount gasket! The metal on paint has ruined the paint under the mount! A 2 cent gasket would have cured that. I made one from packing flim, but the damage is done, the paint is cracked and rust is leaking under the paint.
