Well, good news. I went out to zip tie the other bolt location to the caliper and realized that I had just cleaned out my saddlebags and left out the zip ties. Great! A fellow biker at work gave me some zip ties and I made it home. Back when I bought my first bike, I purchased a "bolt assembly" from someone off ebay. Basically, a crap ton (to be specific) of motorcycle bolts from everywhere on a bike. I haven't really used them, but found a caliper bolt that worked perfectly. it was a little longer than the Nomad bolt, but it didn't touch the rotor when I tightened it down. I WILL purchase the right bolt (found a set of 2 on ebay for $10 with free shipping), but this one will do until those come in. Just to be safe, I took the truck to work today.

Or add a couple of washers under the head of the bolt to get the exact length you need.

I was riding North out of Cheyenne Wyo a few years ago...and at Wheatland, Wyo. while fueling I discovered the large allen bolt, in the lower fork clamp (left side/02 Nomad) was missing...I went to the local Hardware and found a metric Grade#8 standard bolt, of the correct length...borrowed a torque wrench and some med loc-tite....that bolt is still installed (tho I did order the correct allen bolt or the bike ..and still havent bothered to install it !)...I now use med lock-tite on nearly every fastener I re-install !

Try Fastenal. www.fastenal.com/ There's a store in Marietta. Check their store locator, maybe there's one closer. I've had good luck with them finding bolts.

Check Your Bolts / Lines

Sure am glad you posted this reminder. This morning before a small contingency of riders met to ride.

Was up early and thought doing that would be a great idea.

Pulled my saddle bags, seat, etc... just a couple minutes time. Low and behold was there a bolt fully out and the saddle bag was keeping it from falling out. So I feel that last weekend's ride it was like that. It supports the saddle bag and muffler.

Then finding last night that my Shock Pump is not working and had 0 lbs. air pressure in shocks. Knowing something was wrong on last weekend's ride this has been corrected.

Today's ride was smooth as silk blowing in the wind.

Many Thanks

I strongly agree with this thread. My wife and I just returned from a trip to PA. My son in law is a PA state trooper and is part of the current manhunt team. My daughter is a physician so their jobs mandated an immediate need for a babysitter for 2 weeks so off we went. Last Sun on our return trip we were coming out of Carlisle, PA on I-81. On the right shoulder of the road is a metal bag of off a BMW. Further down the road we pull off into a rest area in W.VA. Upon exiting the rest area there is a Harley bag on the side of the road. Once every 2-3 mo's I grab a cold beer and my socket set and go over both of my bikes. And yes, blue loctite is your friend!

Funny, I was riding a month ago down the highway, thought my bike was sounding a bit loud and looked down to my right and I was wearing the K&N air filter on my knee. Acorn nut and cover (Gadgit swap) were missing.

Got home the next day went over the bike checking for loose bolts and nuts, must have found 5 or 6, mostly on the brakes and windshield
