mbarr, coat the threads with never seez and put the plugs back in, only needs done once.
At the same time coat the inside of the plug cap with dielectric grease, this will keep it from sticking to the spark plug.
Changed mine last year and I believe they were original. I ended up buggering up the boot as there was never any dielectric grease on the boot and it was stuck...bigtime. Ended up pulling the wire out of the boot.
As for the neversize, always..........Mikde

Preventative maintenance seems to be the key for our bikes since they don't get taken apart that often. Always thankful for all the tips from other riders.

Well I'm in a dilemma now. My new spark plugs came in and I did have feeler gauge to set them. But, The Gas Tank Is Full. While I could remove the tank with it full - I'm thinking it would be easier to remove with it empty. So do I risk hurting my back lifting that full tank of gas or go for a ride tomorrow and run as much of that gas out as I can? Please hurry - Fellow Biker needs help!!!!!

I would ride it or siphon gas out first I'm old and full tanks are heavy.

Plugs are set, so there's nothing to set and there's a good chance, if they are iridium, you'll bugger them up.

I would bet your riding today,
After all of the comments I guess I need to read up on the gas tank removal. I do remember I need a TubaFore. Where is your vid at Mike07nad or was it BonVoyagers Vid ?? I forgot that too
I do not want to be pulling wires on a stuck boot. Still do not remember, what stops the gas from coming out,was it the fuel pump or pinching off the hose?

If you get a stuck spark plug wire boot try twisting it left and right to free it up. Most of the time this works.
Also get a 6 inch piece of 5/16: gas line at the auto parts store. Push this over the porcelain on the spark plug, coat threads with never seez, now you have an extension on the plug easy to thread the plug in and if it starts to cross thread the rubber hose will spin on the plug so you can't cross thread, just start over.

The fuel lines should have quick disconnects on them. Squeeze and pull off. The have o-rings inside to seal.

1700 has iridium plugs from factrory --- they are good for 100,000 in cars so should be in bikes --- ngk plugs are set at factory n have a sleeve on threads to protect the tip -- iridium doesnt burn up like copper/platinum so they live much longer

Coat the threads as instructed. But if you go on a ride to drop the fuel level, let the engine cool down completely. It will lessen the chance of the plugs pulling the threads in the head.

Remember dissimilar metals corrode. Steel plugs and aluminum heads can make for a bad day. So coat the threads.

On your spark plug boots, a old mechanics trick is to dip your little pinky into a bottle of vasoline, smear a little on the pinky, and put a small amount on the inside of boot. Mrchanics have been doing it for almost 100 years....
And the iridiums, great plugs, I love them. Yes, they'll last 100k....UNDER IDEAL CIRCUMSTANCES!
Yes, could and must likely will. BUT, why would you? Those things fire thousands of times per mile, and with everything else, everyones always trying to make things cheaper....
I have several pieces of 3/8s fuel line in my toolbox, makes it easier to install plugs, plus you know if you get it crossthreaded with the fuel line also.....
I have several diff. lengths cut off for diff. bikes....
Again, if you got 45k, or even 50k on your plugs....for $26 or whatever, you can put fresh ones in....and you'll be safe in knowing you can hit 100k without another plug change.
They say some engine oil will last 100k, but why would you trust it to....thats just tempting fate....
Just my 2 pecos....
