I got to thinking about tires and fuel economy over the weekend. I put Shinko 777 HD tires on this spring and have been getting about 2 mpg lower this year vs last.

For those getting 40 mpg or better, what tires are you running?

I have a 2001 carb'd model and have been averaging 32-35 consistently. I have done the big 3. If I keep the speed down it'll get between 35-38. The only times I've ever got close to 40 is when riding in the mountains at a much lower speed.

I'm running Bridgestone Exedra at both ends. I think the number is G703.

Interesting. I'd been running the 230's on my old bike and they don't have the right rear size in the 230 series for the vaquero. They do in the 777 and was thinking about switching to those soon.

How are they wearing/handling? I could live with a little bit less mpg if it were a good trade off.
