I can't move the lowers at all. They have a cut out for the crash bars. If I were to move them up/down, they'd hit the crash bars and limit my turning radius.

I test rode an FJR last week that had one of the extenders on it. I didn't see any difference w/it but then again, I'd never ridden an FJR so I didn't really know what was normal. Could very well be that it won't do any good. If not, either I'll trade it off on something else or I'll drop some cash for a batwing fairing. I'd rather not do either but I'd probably buy the fairing. I sent my ECU off to Ivan's today. I hope it's all it's cracked up to be.

I hadn't planned on changing the intake or exhaust. Why?

I think you should trade it off Chris... That'll let things settle down in here again to the quiet hum that existed before you returned to the fold

You will gain a few extra HP with an aftermarket intake but some people don't like the extra induction noise.
Personally I didn't mind it but some people couldn't stand it and went back to stock. Check Ivan's dyno charts. http://www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/vn1700.htm |

When you adjusted your screen down that filled the space between the headlight and bottom of screen. That's why you may have noticed some difference.
My guess is that last bit of air can be corrected by raising your screen all the way up and getting the sub panel that slides down to cover the gap. The subpanel cost $68.00. If you searched around you may be able to find it cheaper.

Bought my bike with 3396 miles, raised the windshield and slid the sub panel down...the sub panel shattered at speed a few miles later...been running without one ever since, about 20k miles, zero buffeting and I don't wear gear...

I see that (sort of) but all of the increases (other than stock with and stock w/o Ivans reflash) include a new exhaust. I like the sound of the stock exhaust.

Yeah, mate, but then another forum would have to deal with me. At least everyone here knows me.

If the gap cover thing is the "windshield, sub" item 39154-0034, it's under $30. How much of the windscreen does this cover? I don't know if closing the gap between the windscreen and the lowers made any difference aswell as the space over the headlight. I don't suppose you have a front on pic of your bike w/the subpanel down and the windscreen up, do ya?

Let me ask another subpanel question. Does it just sandwich in between the windscreen and the mounting brackets or are there other parts that need to be purchased? If it's just the subpanel, I might buy one just to see if it fixes things. Sure would be a heck of a lot cheaper than either an aftermarket windscreen or a fairing.

Yes it just sandwhich between the chrome front plate and the windshield. It has a slots on both sides to allow up and down adjustment. I'll try to take a pic later and post it here.

I don't ride two up often, but I did have buffeting with the stock windshield. Bought the clearview recurve wind shield and with the right size and adjusted it to the correct height, I eliminated any noticeable buffeting.
