I use the above (Arai). It is an open face with a flip up shield. It is well vented. Under 65 mph, I ride with the shield up.

Cooler Helmets ?

Several months back we purchase half helmets. We have Full Face and 3/4 face helmets. The half helmets after about 30 to 45 minutes make me feel so uncomfortable , almost like pressure on the sides makes me take it off. I looked at the construction of 1/2 helmets and they are basically the same. Any thoughts about this? =r=

The most comfortable 1/2 helmet I have ever owned is my current one a Scorpion brand.

Take a look at the Nolan N43 Trilogy . Just Google the name and there is lots of info and several YouTube sites that describe the helmet. It is a full shield if you want and has several ways it can be worn including the chin bar which I find very comfortable along with good air flow. I like it and it is very quiet and has capability to include ear/audio if you want. Lots of places to purchase as well as being reasonably priced. Hope it helps. Ride safe. Den

If one wants a good helmet and one that actually protects their head and face, you'll have to spend money. For the most part, you get what you pay for, particularly if you want something that is quit, comfortable and has certain features. If you amortize the cost of a helmet over it's life, which should be ever 5 years, even a very expensive helment is at most, $125 a year. What is your head worth?

I'd been riding with an HJC Symax II for the past four years and decided to treat myself to a new lid along with the new ride (2011 Nomad). Ordered the Schuberth while at Americade. In truth, I cannot really say the Schuberth vents all that much better than the HJC. With air temps over 90 F, hot is hot. BUT, the Schuberth is noticably lighter and quieter and does not fog up in high humidity like the Symax would. That could mean better ventilation -- I'm just not sure. On the other hand, it was $300 more expensive than a new HJC, so a little less face shield fogging is the least I should get for my money, wouldn't you think?!

That being said.
Some people can't afford a $600 helmet.
Buy the best you can afford. Any helmet is better than NO helmet.
One last thought. D rings are the way to go in my opinion.
Those quick release things don't inspire much confidence in me. ::)

they'd have to argue that on a case by case basis. Lots of times they seem to afford $600 in chrome. Just saying. It's a matter of priority.

That said, I bought a less expensive modular last time I bought a helmet. It's noisy and hasn't held up as well as I would have liked. My next Helmet will be among these: Vemar Jiano, Shoei Muliti-Tech, Nolan N103, or a Schuberth C3. The thing is to find somewhere that has any in stock that I can try on.

Ponch, I went to webBikeWorld and read the reviews on the helmets you mentioned.
There is quite a price difference. Even the very expensive Schuberth C3 has some complaints.
Did you research your choices? I am sure you did but the reviews on webBikeWorld make some interesting reading.

Depending on what needs to be investigated, I will use different sources. With clothing and bike ergonomics, I tend to take it with a grain of salt as I am at one end of the bell curve that motojournalists never represent when testing stuff. I tend to use forums, like these and in the BMW forums, they tend to talk quite a bit about gear and tend to be a less compromising bunch. Yes there was one particular complaint about the C-3, but it's very fixable. As far as price difference, all the helmets are between $399-699 list. The Jiano is now the Jiano Evo TC. that said, I think the modulars I have listed here are the best out there (and there will be more or changes by the time I buy one next year) and I will look at as many as I can. One big thing is color too. My next helmet will have to be something that stands out, like Yellow, Orange or Red, may be White.

Cooler Helmets ?

I checked out the helmets you talked about.
Our full face helmets are Nolans.
The 3/4 face helmets (the most comfortable) JCwhitney
and the New 1/2 helmet (very very uncomfortable) HCI

Its that hard foam that gives me a headache. Thats why I looked at a lot of other 1/2 helmet brands the last month just to see how they were constructed. All the ones I looked at have that hard foam with very little cushion.

Maybe the 1/2 helmet is to small, I have the large now. ? =r=
