Oil Filter/What a hassle!
I either get the Hi-flo or Fram. Normally when I purchase at CTC lately they have had the Hi-flo. Or I go to local bike shop and get one there, about the same cost. Sometimes the bike shop doesn't have them in stock so I go to CTC, and have either or there. Same skew? so same price.
Haven't even looked for them at Wal-mart, not sure if they do or do not have them here. Most superstores they are building now do not have a Tire Lube Express in them and carry a lot LESS automotive supplies that they use to. Scott

Oil Filter/What a hassle!
Where are you guys buying these Mexican Super Techs?
I rode today and changed the oil when I got home. I was curious and checked all of the Super Tech filters I have. All of the ST7317 filters I reviewed have printed on the end "Product of USA". I bought the last filters about two months ago.

Brik, look inside of the filter tube to the far end. What color is the high pressure bypass seal?

Wally world has a lot less hunting stuff also, they have a policy if it doesn't after a set amount of time they stop stocking it.

This is a little off the wall, but you can kinda see what a filter does if you look at your coffee filter.
Make a couple of pots using the same paper filter. You will probably get a mess as the filter will be clogged. Try to make a pot using more than one filter. just for fun.

I normally get the Hiflow ones and sometimes they have them at CTC if bike shop is out. Yes around 10.00 w/tax is about right. I have used the FRAM one as well, but since I do change it every 4K or less it's not a huge issue. I could use the one from my Miata (slightly longer) if the goats belly wasn't there, but again same price range so no savings. I know they use to carry Purolator filters in Wal-Mart when i worked there years ago, but like a lot of things they got rid of a lot. They have to have so many turns on the hook (term) to keep a product viable. If in a given year they don't have enough turns of a product no matter what the profit margins are, they phase it out or double up on one similar that has good turn overs. That is why some items you see 2-3 spots for. Sometimes it's due to them not being able to keep the stock of the other items and to look full they spread it out...lol...but many times the high turn over well replenished items get more shelf space. But since they stopped selling them I guess no one else does either now (Zellers use to carry Purolator too). Just another way our retail landscape has changed and NOT for the better!!!! Scott

My Super Techs say Product of USA and have a Blue "button" if you look into the far end of the inside. $2.77 @ Wally World last time I bought them.

Oil Filter/What a hassle!
I sort of find the price of a filter as a surprise. It cleans the engines life blood, and why the cost of 4 bucks for a less expensive filter is important I can't know.
I can't prove it but I think my 85' Volvo turbo is well and alive today for the fact I use WIX even if they say NAPA Gold on them. Owning a turbo anything means change the oil change the oil and change the oil. It's a rule. I use NAPA Gold and WIX on my 81 yammi 850 too. Most of the time when my oil is changed on time it still has a golden sheen to it, even in the ancient yammi and or the dammed cage. Guys drop jingle on bling for 200+ bucks a pop, but cut the costs of filters? I don't understand that. If I thought there was a better filter than WIX and it cost a little more than WIX it would be under my Nomad. If there were a bigger filter I would have that too. I can tell when the NAD needs a oil and filter change, just by the way it shifts.

Oil Filter/What a hassle!
Just because a filter costs more doesn't mean its any better, there was a comparison study done on oil filters that I read a few years ago and the Wal lMart filter was one of the higher rated filters.
