sanding drum on the dremel I won't say the holes are perfect but the speakers fit nicely in the fairing and where the grill touched at the top I sanded the edge so it would go all the down and touch the fairing hard to explain I try to get some picture up tomorrow

Question for those who have the Reckless already installed:
Is it possible to add some gauges right above the radio unit? i.e oil press, water temp? |

If you want to add gauges, I'd order a Reckless without holes cut for the stereo and speakers. If you did it right, and used smaller speakers you could probably fit a couple of gauges between the speakers and the center "console" of the fairing.

Thanks CJ, We're planning to go to Smokey Mtns next July, really close to TN, it's very probable that a visit to Reckless fairing's factory will be included in the schedule. Do you know their actual address?

GREAT minds think alike :) I am also thinking of gauges in that area,, 2 1/4" would be the biggest you may be able to use.. The trim fir my gauges ride up a tad on the bevel section of the fairing radio housing,, If I explained it right,, Im would say 2" gauges should pop right in.. I should have my fairing back from paint this weekend :) so Ill check closer of Im sure someone here will post before then :)

My Rockford Fosgate Punch speakers were waiting for me when I got home today, so I checked the fit. The 6.5" speaker openings in the fairing are 5.375" diameter. The spider on the back of the speaker needs a 5.8" hole to lay flat. So not wanting to tear into an expensive piece of fiberglass with a small router, file, jigsaw, or other method of glass destruction, I went another route. I went to Sears on my lunch (working near a huge mall can be handy) and I bought a 3.5" 60 grit flap sanding wheel for $5-$6.
I used a scrap of 2x4 about 10" long. I marked the center of the 4" (3-3/8) side. I made a vertical mark across the centerline. Using that centerpoint, I used a compass to scribe arcs 5.25" apart. (--+--). I then adjusted the compass to draw a circle with a radius of 2-13/16". I held the 2x4 on the backside of the speaker opening and aligned my arcs with the edges of the cutout. I had my son scribe the circle with the compass, marking the primed surface. The circle was about 3/16 larger than the cutout. I used the flap wheel to enlarge the holes. It took maybe 10-15 minutes per opening to get them to the right size. Link to speakers: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...n_US&p_status= Next up: I am toying with the idea of adding some switches for driving lights and other accessories. I think I can fit a couple of small, round, illuminated rocker switches between each speaker and the radio bump-out. See rudimentary drawing attached.

Has anyone figured out or found a glove box like insert to go above the radio mount? It's not very deep but could hold glasses, wallet, etc. I think a marine cover might nake a good access door/rain cover. Just curious!!

Today's project: Install the speakers and test the sound system.
I installed my Rockford Fosgate speakers today. Man, it's hard to center round speakers on an oval surface, surrounded by curved edges. Here is the front view: From the backside: With the stereo temporarily wired up for testing: The stereo sounds really good. I had never heard HD radio before and it sounds really, really good. Antenna, speakers and head unit all work as expected.
