No thank God! Hi was 93. Average was 86. Still a hard ride with the headwind.

Left Flagstaff about 3am and made it home at 5:30 this morning. From Red Lodge, Norma and I went to Gardiner and did four days in Yellowstone. Took two days going to Ouray, CO and stayed there another four days. Finally had to admit it was time to come home. We had a great time and look forward to doing something similar again. I'll post a couple of pictures after I go through all of them.

Boy, that is tough question Dave. Have not been to all of them but I have been to several. We have had so many good ones. Splitting hairs. I will say Western Montana is by far my favorite area to ride. You can find lots of cool roads near water & scenery with hardly any traffic.

These are in no particular order just a brief review.

Lake Tahoe - With Yosemite nearby there was plenty of scenery to ride. Hotel location was real good. You could walk to anything you wanted. Casino, restaurant, gondolas, waterfront. More traffic than I like.

Orofino - great hotel especially because it was on the river. Great mc rides, Lolo Pass and The Rattlesnake. The town itself was nothing special but sitting out by the river every night was great. A big attraction for me is not having to get on the bike at the end of the day to go eat and have a couple of cocktails. Traffic was not bad.

Kalispell - Bigger town. Great hotel and fire pit, proximity to Glacier National. Great rides on the way in as well. My personal favorite was Highway 200. Lots of restaurant choices. This might be the hook for you..... you can walk to Famous Dave's BBQ & cocktails. :cool: traffic was not bad unless you or in the park.

Red Lodge- Great hotel, relaxing. Cool little town. Great rides in the area... Beartooth, Chief Joseph. I stayed out of Yellowstone because I did not want to deal with the traffic but I have been there before in a car, great scenery and lots to see. A little bit of a walk to the restaurants but there was a convenience store right across the street and this little Lodge had snacks, beer and other essentials on hand. Lodge owner made great breakfast and dinner. I was expecting more traffic on the Beartooth Highway. There was hardly any traffic on Chief Joseph or any other road that was not in Yellowstone.

Estes Park - Amazing rides. Nothing like riding your bike at 12,000 feet. Cool town. Again you could walk to eats and small store. Liquor store was right across the street. I think we wore a path in the asphalt :cool:

Canmore- Cool town, Hotel worked for us but no fire pit or river. Great rides (Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, and more). No matter how you got here you went through some great scenery but I have been to Canada lots of times and I can never remember a time it did not rain for at least a day or two.



Kanab - was not there :mad:

Mesquite - was not there :mad:

Nationals - haven't been to one but I am thinking about New York next year. My wife wants to see Niagara Falls, I want to go to Cooperstown and the New England states to ride. It will come down to time available. If I can't make it it is ok there is still a ton of roads in the West I still need to ride.


The common denominator to the fun at all of these rallys has been the people that have evolved into friends. Without them the rest wouldn't have mattered as much.

As far as just "location" the Best Western at Orofino was the best hotel. Not much of a town.

For a destination for rides Kanab is hard to beat. Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon and Lake Powell are all an hour or less away. It's a mecca for riding spots after you get there. Town is small with some decent food places all walking distance. They now have 2 very nice luxury hotels. Summer is warm but the nights always cool off due to the 5K ft. elevation.

Estes Park WAS a national ride. Spectacular views riding the Rockies. Long drive for me. Great shopping and free shuttle service.

Crescent City. Pleasant weather almost never hot. Right on the beach. Coos Bay north and Redwoods south. Curley Lodge was a nice lodge to hang out at night.

Mesquite. Major dive location and terrible heat in July August. First meeting for southwest location and hopefully last. Crappy little town. Never get tired of CJ's recollection stories on it!

Tahoe. The lake is beautiful but like Greg too much traffic. Multiple ride locations and unlimited shopping and eating options. Great spot for the ladies

Didn't go to Cortez Co. rode through there on the way home from Estes Park Co.

Red Lodge. Warm personnel location. Small town. Lots of traffic. Especially south to Cody and Yellowstone. Legendary Beartooth Highway.

Didn't know they decided on NY for the national.

Brad... you are right I forgot that Estes Park was a National.

I also forgot I went to Crescent City too. Senior moments.

It is hell to have an AARP card.

The Redwoods were great but the weather in the area can be a guessing game. Lots of fog on the coast.
