Dude...Hwy 50 is the bomb. You will feel like the only person on the planet...it is "America's Loneliest Road". Charlie and I rode it eastbound from Reno (Fernley) to Ely on our way to Kanab a few years back, then headed south on 93, the "Great Basin Hwy", which I thought was even lonelier! Don't pass a single gas stop...and you can get your "I survived Hwy 50" pin at the Chevron station in Austin! Provided of course you actually do survive it....

..Story Time.

South Out of Ely..on Highway 93..about 100 miles..there Used to be a old time saloon in Pioche, Nev. (get a room up the street,- then visit the bar)

I went in one day in a blinding snow storm...only one other patron was in there...(and the bartender)..

Sitting at the bar, I struck up a conversation with this weathered and grizzled old Cow Boy...

So, I ask, what brings you in today ?.. He said.. "I'm Getting Beautiful" !

Puzzled I ask how do you do that ?... He say's just sit here and sip your favorite drink...and every few minutes glance at that big mirror on the wall behind the bar..Amazingly...after a few minutes you'll notice you are getting more beautiful with every drink !...(He turned out to be right !)

Okay you sorry bastards....I have made a reservation for my wife and I. Five nights in a Jr. Suite arriving Sunday June 14, departing Friday June 19. Only on dshelly's calendar is Fri the 18th....

. Looking like two long day rides to get there (and home again). The wife says she can buck up and make it happen. Charlie and Schoeney....we will have to talk...maybe meet up for the ride south. I see another party in my future...

Charlie and I had breakfast in Pioche....I remember it well....like an old west town in the hills. In the photo of me in the road (Hwy 93), Pioche is in the distance at the foot of those hills...

That is a total of 6101 miles.
