The Trophy had a lot of teething problems and it's equivalent to the previous RT. The thing is, the three closest BMW dealers are in Colorado, the closest 100 miles away. I say try them both. You'll like how relatively light the RT is.

It weighs 690lbs too. Seems like it's getting heavier. I do see they put some kind of vent on the windscreen.

"Owners who wish to use the 2015 Kawasaki Concours14 ABS for long distance touring will be pleased to hear that Kawasaki Genuine Accessories also offers an optional touring seat, which will provide enhanced comfort for extended journeys and is more resistant to heat accumulation when exposed to the sun –this is the material’s first application in the motorcycle industry and should make the seat cooler after the bike has been sitting in the sun".
Why is this not installed on the stock bike !!! |

Definitely an entry level price. Along with the FJR from Yamaha with a similar price. Which also comes with cruise and heated grips as standard. I would like to ride both to compare. In our climate hear in Ontario heated grips sure are a plus. As well, now that I've had cruise on a bike it would be hard to buy one without it.

Both the C14 and FJR are more sport oriented sport tourers, as opposed to the Trophy, ST and RT. All are a lot heavier than the RT. The Trophy and FJR ES are more up to spec with regards to amenities, whereas the RT sets the standard. It depends on the riding one does, more touring oriented or sport oriented.

Cant believe they did not include cruise. Scratch it off my list for now, factory cruise is a must on my next bike. 3yr warranty a plus.
The FJR dominted the IBR...no doubt it is a worthy long distance touring bike at a great price. I found a brand new 2014 Red for 12,500...great deal... But I am not in the market for a new bike yet. Jap reliabilty and dealer network really gives you piece of mind. I love everything I see and hear about the BMW 1200Rt but I just can't get past the reliability, dealer network, and cost to repair issues, whether they are perceived or reality. If they ever get consistency in the reliability issues... It could be the perfect bike. http://m.autoevolution.com/iron-butt...ays-63168.html

Long term reliability is a question and one I have myself. The engines are fine, but stuff around it can break and it's still expensive. So far, the only common issues I've heard about with BMWs is the switch gear. K bikes have had water pump issues. I haven't herd of final drive issues on the newer bikes, so may be they have that licked. My advice if you want a Beemer is to get an extended warranty and ride it. As far as dealers go, BMW dealers tend to be better than Japanese dealers when it comes to fixing things and new BMWs come with roadside for the first 3 years. Would I get one again? May be. It depends on the deal and my situation. I'd also like a bike with less and simpler maintenance. The new rt is better, but it's not as simple as a victory, for instance or an Indian.

not enough change in the the new c14 and way too much flo green tupperware to entice me into trading.having said that,my dealer/buddy called me today with an offer to trade
my 2012 c14 for his 2014 candy red c14 demo that only has 500 miles on it.there is a price difference of course but he is willing to carry the difference in house at 0% interest. another plus is the fact that his bike has the full 3 year warranty while my bikes warranty will expire in may.and lastly he will switch out all my farkle which would be the seat, windshield, exhaust, lowering links and handle bar risers.let's just say I am very tempted.
