2 more for Colorado.

Lake City, CO and Hotchkiss, CO. Both sites have some amazing rides. Lake City is in the mountains and is a small town with amazing views. Hotchkiss has access to the Grand Mesa and Black Canyon roads.

Now that sounds inviting.

Hannigan is right out there too and there's a lodge with cabins, IIRC. It's much cooler out that way.

Hannagan Meadow is a pretty remote location. It's at 8000' and it's a half hour from the nearest town (Alpine) which has a couple of cafes and one gas station. I don't think that area has the resources to support a rally. I agree it's a nice place, but there's nothing there.

Hell, Springerville/Eagar would be a better rally base than Hannagan Meadow. At least there are multiple dining and lodging options and an oustanding Mexican restaurant (Los Dos Molinos) in Springerville.

In fact, I think the Springerville-Eagar area would be a better choice than Show Low or Pinetop. It wouldn't be as crowded. It's high enough that the temperatures would be tolerable, it's right at US 60 and Hwy 191. It's not too far to I-40, for the out of state folks. I have done a lot of riding in that area (western NM, eastern AZ) and there are a lot of great roads.

In the last three years I've either been unemployed or employed as a contractor, which means that if I don't work, I don't get paid. I've had a FT job for the last 14 months, but the accrual rate for vacation days sucks starting out and I have to set aside vacation time for family. When I get enough time saved up, I'll go.

Well I'm self employed and I don't get paid when I don't work either. I still found time to go though. It's all in your priorities.

Yeah it is. I have a wife and 5 kids. That's the priority. These trips come after that.

No, but the club liked it enough that they are going back there next year. These guys can go anywhere they like and often do...No matter to me whether it would be Alpine or the lodge or Show Low. The rides will be the same and at most it's only 4 hours from where I live.

I am not really big on the Idea of just staying in one place the whole time.

We could go to Springerville/Eagar Az area for a few days and then ride and stay over near Mesa Verde national Park Co. and then to Lake City Co in under 500 miles.

We could do something similar more out west. You can stay in the Redwoods Ca and ride to Crater Lake Or. for a few days in around 220 miles.
