Seems that all the rallies have a home base.

A base is nice so you don't have to unpack and repack every day. especially when you're taking two or three days to get there anyhow.

And anywhere that is picked, there will be rides that can extend a couple hundred miles out from the home base. I would think too that a hotel/motel/lodge would give a better deal if there was a guarantee of x number of guests for x number of days.

Kris and I have been looking at a hotel in Cody Wyoming. Near Jellystone. Looks promising. Kris call the place and they could accommodate us. Just a thought..

You would think that you might get a room cheaper, but in reality it seems that it cost more because we stay in resort type areas where it's more expensive.

On the road you can find 50.00 a night rooms all over the place.

I'm liking the Cody idea because I have never been there. Great riding with Beartooth and Joseph Hwys, Jellystone is right there...and the Wild West museum is called the Smithsonian of the West. I've ridden the Beartooth and it is spectacular. This would be a July deal for sure. July 4th is on a Monday. We could do that week or any week in July really. I'm down with it.

I have been there. It's not that nice. I don't know what that says about the taste of the boys in the BMW group, but we can do a lot better than that. Hannagan Meadow is just a wide spot in the road, there's nothing there but a run down lodge with a small store and a gas pump. Last time we went there, it was out of gas.

You don't want to be running between Alpine and Hannagan after dark on a bike. The whole area is lousy with elk and deer. We were riding to Alpine late in the day, we came around a bend about 50 mph to find a cow elk and her calf standing there in the middle of the highway. The lead rider damn near hit the calf.

Summer time and AZ don't mix if you ask me unless your'e sitting inside with the a/c on. I'd probably bail on that one. I can't take that 90 - 100+ stuff very long.

That part of the state is 25-30 degrees cooler than the valley. figure 85 for highs at most. That said, 90 here is more tolerable than in a lot of other places where the humidity is higher.

I've ridden all over the state of Utah. In my opinion, it's one of the most beautiful places on earth! Zion, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands. The landscape changes at virtually every turn and the vistas are stunning! I'm up for anywhere in Utah! The pic of my bike below was taken in Utah.
