Mobil 1 makes a 15W50. It is a racing oil. I used it for 2 cycles and had no complaints with it. Got it a Wally World for about $19 gallon. Is not energy conserving, and has no ill effects on a wet clutch.

Funny you said this. Last week ABC news went to a home in Dallas and asked the homeowners if they would let them remove everything from the house not made in the USA. The homeowners agreed, and left for the day. ABC had a crew load up a moving truck with the non-American made stuff. When the family returned, all that was left in the house was a vase and some pottery.

Very few consumer goods are produced in the USA anymore, and those manufacturing jobs are gone forever.
The good side of this is my son just back for a short vist from Iraq brought me a head rag. On the bag it says Rahana, my wife says it's a Keffiyeh. I say it's a friggin towel.

The point is this rag is made in Red Commie China

Me: I plan to model it at Logan Internation with my underfolding AK-47 I'm gonna be a STAR!

Mac, I'm surprised you didn't comment on the choice of 15W50 that is mentioned just before your post.

Guys, 15W50 might be too thick an oil for our Nomads. I'm sure Mac can give you a lecture on that.

If your running the bike in a hot climate, or if the bike has high mileage then 15w 50 would be fine. Other than that you don't really need it.

I run thinner oils, because they tend to lube more, but there have been sooooooo many oil threads i tend to stay out of it.

What oils work in New Hampster, don't work in Death Valley...

I reccomend running the thinest viscosity you can, for quiet lifters in the case of NADS, and change both the engine oil and gear oil when shifting gets crunchy.

I reccomend the strainer screen plug be the only drain plug used on the engine, and that the gear oil should be changed each or atleast everyother oil change and not be filled dead straight up.
That gear oil is over filled dead straight up and will cause leaks by drowning seals.

A block of no more than a 2x4 laid flat 'SHALL be plenty'.

Nomads like thinner viscosity oils, they ain't harleys.. Infact you can probably hammer the valve train with oils like 20 winter/50.

Nomads do things a little different than any other machines i have ever known. Nomads break a lot of in general rules.

$24.99 a gallon at the local O'Reilly's; better buy a couple at that price. Oil prices are not going to hold.

I am not sure it is really oil going up. Silver is up to 36 bucks a troy ounce. I thyink the questionalbe value of a dollar just went down. What i am not sure about is what a dollar is worth. Might just be you need 100 dollars to buy a loaf of bread pretty soon.

This is getting to political for the garage, so I will stop.

I use the K&N 303, I figure I'll change the oil once a year. If I keep the bike 20 years, I spent couple hundred bucks on oil filters...not a bad deal considering it's for a 15,000.00 motorcyle. I don't undrestand trying to save a few bucks on tires, oil & filter. I mean really, aren't these the two most important things. I know guys that will drop 150 bucks on a seat cover and then shop all over town to save 2 bucks on oil....I just don't understand!

Oil change once a year? In Tn? Musta come in cold in Tn!

I change my oil about 3 times a NH season.... once each 3,000 miles, with a WIX filter, and a gear oil change each and every time.

I do save a buck on rear tires, but I like the CT for it's handling, and run good tires up front. I liked the Dunlop 251 radil til I rode a cobra on Flavors bike. :-[ He has the same rear tire I have, so the difference I felt was his cobra. That will be my next ft tire.
