trailering a bagger

has anybody ever trailered there vaquero for some reason or another
what did you do for tie down points on the bike?

i used whats called a "canyon dancer",its a strap that goes over the grips.. you hook your tie downs to them and it clears the fairing...they retail for 29.95

Please don't tie your Vaq down by the grips... Bent bars will usually be the result if a heavy bike is throwing itself against a restraint at the outside points. Someone had done that on my Nomad before I bought it, and since any touring in NZ usually involves an inter-island ferry - its bars were bent just enough to annoy me.

I use MC specific tie-downs on the VV. You can feed them up under the fairing and secure each side in the center of the bars, or even tie down from the front engine guards, above highway pegs. The front wheel must be trapped & immobilized.

If required, straps to the rear engine guards stop any sideways movement.

thanks all, Peg I have trailered several times before just not my new vaq, I am concerned with once the straps are taught that it will be so close to the fairing that it may rub or even put pressure on it ( we know its only plastic ) to fudge it some, I not digging the grip point tie down either I have visuals on that but glad to get good responses from folks that have done it. other than YOUR NOT SUPPOSE TO TRAILOR A VAQUERO ha ha ha !

I'll second using the crash bars for tie down points.

I have had to trailer a few times (driving a moving van for my parents) between FL an NC. And used the crash bars every time without incident.

Most riders just take the badges off if they want to pretend they have a Harley, much easier, but I guess towing the bagger will work too. Each to his own.

on the nomad I use soft ties and use a wheel chock to hold the front wheel and tie to the crash bar on front and to either the rear crash bar or to my wompus rack to hold rear down depending on trailer and tie down points (wife does not ride when we go on trips I tow to there and ride while there she shops)

I know your just kidding, but if I wanted a harley I would have fuckin bought one, you know the price of a 14 vaquero its right there with the harleys that were designed to fail at a lil over 20000mi.

You never miss an opportunity, do you? Go to a VBA rally sometime, you'll see a lot of Vulcans coming in on trailers.

Doesn't matter what rally you go to, big ones like Sturgis and Daytona or little tiny ones with 150 people that I go to all year long, there are always a lot of bikes, baggers included, rolling in on trailers. Some people have to have their RV, AC, showers, some people take pride in not having any miles on their bikes, some people are just idiot RUBS.

I personally live to pack my gear up on my bike and go riding for a day or a week or anywhere in between. If I can't fit it, or buy it on the way, I don't need it. If my girl doesn't want to ride (she always does), she can either drive the car, or stay home. It makes me sad to see someone pull in to a camp ground that is 200 miles away from their home, with a dresser on the trailer behind the RV. Especially when the only time I see the bike move all weekend is when it is unloaded then re-loaded.

Years ago I lived in Telluride Colorado. One summer during the Iron Horse Rally in Durango, there were a couple of really nice custom choppers parked in front of the restaurant I worked at. When I noticed the Florida plates, I asked the guys who rode them in if they had actually ridden those hardtails that far. They said no, they had the bikes flown in and met them here. I turned around and walked away. I've simply never understood the idea of having a bike if you aren't going to ride it absolutely as much as possible. But that's just me.
