Car Tire for 2006 Nomad for rear, riding 2-UP

The last several bikes I had, I always ran C/T on the rear of them.

I do ride 2-UP, about 30% of the time, and would like a softer tire for the rear, to give a more comfortable ride for my wife.
I always found by putting a C/T on the rear, it helped allot with that.

I'm trying to decide between a few tire sizes, after doing some research on this.

Dunlap SP5000 195-60-16 seems to be the closest to the factory rear tire, and speedo reads the same as factory

205-65-16 & 205-60-16 also seem to be good sponsors and fit with no issues, all though they are taller & wider

Any recommendations you guys have that are running the C/T on the rear, any input as to what your running, and how you like it?

I need to order one here in the next few days, my rear tire is shot

Car Tire for 2006 Nomad for rear, riding 2-UP

I've been running the Dunlop SP5000 195/60-16 for 14,000 miles. Very soft riding tire but is smaller in diameter than the stock MC tire. I've dragged the pipes several times riding 2 up with 28 psi in the tire and 37 psi in the shocks. The sidewalls are soft which makes it a terrific riding tire but a little soft on moderate leans causing scraping. I'm going to go with a taller CT if I can find one.

Man, you just saved me ! I was going to order that tire, I saw it was a little lower, but I didn't think -0.49 was that much, but I guess the 1/2" makes a difference

According to the tire calculator, they looked close

Maybe I'll go with the 205 series, alittle wide, but taller also

look at the specs on the 205/60-16, it's 1.48 taller, and the width fits also, with the thickness of about 2 credit cards between the sidewall and swing arm

I've looked at the 205/60-16. A few of the guys here are running them. Kawhead and Jesse are the two that I can think of now.

I'm running the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred in 205/60-16. It fits with no modifications, and has clearance of 3 credit card thicknesses (.09"). The ride and handling are better than any MC tire I've ran on the Nomad. The sidewall is considerably stiffer than the SP 5000, doesn't flex near as much in the corners. I have ridden Nomads with both tires, and ride wise, one is as good as the other. The 205 is taller than the 195, but the speedo still reads fast. Check it out......

Jesse is running the GY Triple Tread. Kawhead may be running the same tire or maybe the Altimax.

Does it still give it a softer ride then the MC with the stiffer sidewall?

Looks like that one and the one I was looking at are the same all most

I seen your post ( I think ) on the other forms as well if I'm not mistaken about running this C/T

Thanks for your and Cajunriders help on this !

I installed a Vredestien Comtrac, 175/75/16 because I wanted to stay closer to the stock width. It almost totally corrects the speedo error and so far rides really nice.

I'm running the Avon Cobra in front. Mounted it at the same time as the SP 5000. It is holding up very well. I run 42 psi and there is no evidence of cupping yet with 14,000 miles.

That Avon Cobra on front can't miss. I almost went with the Vredestein for the rear, but they were out of stock. I really like my Goodyear TT on rear. It is the same as Vulcan E is running. It rides good and is wearing very well. :)

Good memory Mitch! I have the GYTT Assurance 205/60-16. Stiffness of the ride depends on the air pressure. It's a great all weatherr ride. I don't ride very aggressive and a lot of times two up and seldom rub the pipes. I believe VulcanE has it, and I have an Avon Cobra 150/80R16 on the front. The Ultimate Set Up!

I'm going to repeat again because this happened to me. When you mount this big tire leave your acorn nuts on the gear box loose. Torque your axle nut first then torque your gear box nuts. Otherwise you'll pull your shaft tube into your tire. Like VulcanE says, you'll have three cards or 3 mm clearance between your tire and tube. Mine has never rubbed.
