Blue Ridge Parkway
We are planning a trip down the BRP during the 4th of July week. We appreciate any tips from anyone who has traveled it. What is a reasonable amount of time needed for this trip. We want to ride the entire length.

I rode the BRP along with Skyline Drive in 2007. From Rock Hill,SC to Front Royal,Va down to Cherokee,NC,over to Deals Gap and back home took us 4 days(1400 miles),but that wasn't stopping to see the sites.Fantastic ride, but I would allow more time the next time I ride it.

This guy (Wayne) is a great guy that has a business of putting maps together for motorcycle trips in that region.
He has had a lot of press on his mapping. His prices are more than reasonable for the various maps he has. Gives distances, gas-stops, sights to see, and etc. Take a look... http://americaridesmaps.com/NC004.htm

In VA The BRP runs into the Skyline Drive (Part of Shenandoah Nat. Park) which can (if you wish) add another 104 miles to your trip. I have ridden both about a dozen time - best ride in USA.
Are you camping? Are you in a hurry? There are lodges and campgrounds about every 60-80 miles along the way. Same for gas stations and restaurants.

We'll all be riding it when we are at the national rally. You could join us then as well to check it out.

I rode the BRP/Skyline Dr last summer.
We stopped for photo ops. We didn't hurry but we could have done more sightseeing. We left Knoxville at dawn and spent the night in Roanoke. We spent night 2 with a friend in DC then down and across the Chesapeake bay bridge tunnel to night 3 in Hampton. Took our time at Assateague and Chincoteague and had to go through Assawoman. Night 4 in Carolina and then closed the loop. Next time I'll take 4 days to ride just the BRP/Skyline. I'll camp and take some time to do some hiking. Mike |

I have a conference in Memphis mid-July this year and am going to ride the Nomad there and plan to ride the BRP on the way back. Instead of flying, my boss is letting me use the air fare cost towards the trip, gotta love it when work will cover some of my fun :-)
