Bike to bike communication suggestions
Just picked up my new '08 Nomad the other day and am really liking it so far. I guess it's time for my first question to the forum. I did search for this topic and didn't find much so if any of you know of somewhere in the forum this has been asked, let me know.... if not, here goes! My dad has an '07 Goldwing (pretty much every option you can imagine) and now I've got my Nomad, I'm going to need to keep tabs on him when we go on some longer rides and will need to communicate with him. I don't anticipate being too far apart at any given time but wanted to know what suggestions you all had for bike to bike communication. I know I'll need a new helmet as well, so let's just say that I don't have anything other than the bike to start with. What would be the easiest (and hopefully not too expensive) way to get started with this?

Jmax,
Welcome to the forums! We came from a 5000 mile road trip about a week ago and my wife's now looking for a bike-to-bike intercom. She found this: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...000000&eCat=BC I haven't had time to investigate this product but it might help you out. Cheers, Elvis PS: Costco page has a review done by a Gold Wing owner. |

I don't think you can beat the Scala-Cardo Q-2 system.
It has all the features of the above system but allows you to communicate out to 1600 feet as opposed to 660 for the above system.

Since your dad already has a Goldwing with a CB, I'd say spend the money and go with the J&M CB along with their headset.

if your dads purchased the optional cb radio then go with the j&m. the headset will depend on the type of helmet you get. personally, I like using ear buds and I used EDapters from EdSets to split the headset line unto earbuds when I had the 05 wing. I did the same thing with my chatterbox I use on the nomad now. You can buy the EDset headsets without ear pieces for earbud use too.

Hubby and I use that system and LOVE it!!! The battery stays charged up for a long time too. Our longest test, was a West Virginia ride that lasted 10 1/2 hours, and we stayed in touch with other the whole time. Also, I have a FF helmet, so wind isn't an issue for me withe the Bluetooth. I have people call my cell while I am riding and can't hear a thing in the background! They are always amazed at how clear I sound

Talked with my dad and I don't think he has bought anything to get the CB setup for the wing yet so we may just go with one of the bluetooth options. I'm really liking the Scala G2 and G4 setups but also am looking at the BluAnt F4 Interphone as an option. Anyone ever used that or know someone who has? Leaning more towards the Scala option for now though.... Trying to figure out how to incorporate that into all the buttons/switches on dad's wing, it would be nice if he could use his 'talk' switch on the handlebar with that. Thanks everyone for your input and help!

That's true, up to a point. If you also use the intercom of the wing to talk to a pillion, then you need something that integrates with the bike's built in system. I doubt most would want to put two mics and speaker sets in a helmet.

MikeInFLA has two set ups in his helmet, one is scala and the other is J&M.
Wife and I have J&M we use on our rides (two up) but communicate with other bikes in our group is good with them. I actually prefer the old fashioned yelling over the drone of the engines.

I'm with you Coach. If you were suppose to talk on a bike you'd be setting side saddle and looking at each other!
