7500 miles service
Gents,
Just to get an independent opinion - Am I going to lose the warranty of my NAD08 if I do the 7500 m service myself? I have been taking the bike to my dealer from the beginning but the 4000 m service was a complete rip off. I do not want to badmouth anybody but the mechanic did not even notice that both of my exhaust pipes were loose right at the engine. I think that the dealerships do not have enough experienced mechanics anymore. One of my friends has a 1998 HD Fat Boy and his HD service told him that they had one mechanic who was able to fix and OLD bike like that. WTF?! I still have warranty until FEB 2011 and I do not want to lose that but at the same time I do not want to spend $200 for nothing... Thanks. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

I don't think youll void your warranty, but Im not absolutely sure either. I think its a waste of money as well, like you said they will miss more than you will most times. Id find out for sure and if it isn't required, I wouldn't take it in. Keep reciepts for your oil changes and whatever other servic you do, and log a record of your work.

7500 miles service
Tanker, I have been performing my own service since the first 600 mile service which I allowed the dealer to do. I save all of my receipts for oil, filters, etc to prove that the service was performed should any issue pop up. I asked the service manager about it after the 600 mile service and he advised me to save the receipts. I scan them and save them as jpegs in my maintenance folder on the PC as the receipts do fade after a while.

7500 miles service
i doubt it would void it. they might try to battle you though. I do all my work. save reciepts that I remember to anyways. (it's only been oil and filters so far) my 7500 is due now, but I'll wait a few months till winter and take the bike down top to bottom. take pics even. just like a car, you don't have to go to the dealer for service to keep a warranty valid.

The $100 oil / filter change is not my cup of tea either. I'll do it all in my garage so far - short of mounting and balancing the wheels/tires which I get done for $20. The fuel pump was going to cost about $700 to get the dealer to do it - but getting the pump off a wrecked low miles bike and doing my own work saves about $500 of that cost. But I don't have any warranty....

You aren't going to void your warranty. It's good to do your own work, that way you know it was done right.

7500 miles service
No as you see is the answer, but you need a book, the tools and a lift.
This is the swing armservice and a larger service. You will need a IMO a stiffer chassi grease, moly lube grease, a new rear axel cotter pin, 2 swing arm seals, probably 2 head pipe crush gaskets HD has these cheaper, and a new rubber boot for the bevel gear to drive shaft tube. If that boot is extremely good you can wait for the next service, but i wish i bought a new one for my 06 1600. I expected that boot to last in excess of 10 years and it hasn't lasted 4. If you do this rear below the gargage area in maint on my how to, and don't be cutting the brake line loopes either!
