Leather cleaner
i have a question on cleaning a leather jacket? my girlfriend had a bad/good nite sailing with the "captain". long story short, she was wearing her leather jacket and cant get it clean. any ideas or products that can clean up a leather jacket? she just tried water, cuz she was afraid anything else might damage the leather. :'( thanks.

I would try mild soap like Dawn with warm water. After you clean it , make sure you put some leather treatment on it.

You want saddle soap. Use a damp cloth and work the saddle soap into the cloth. Then scrub the leather. Use a clean damp cloth to wipe off the soap. Allow time for the leather to dry. Always follow with a leather treatment product. I use mink oil cream. Does not take much mink oil. Use sparingly and rub it in well. It will look and feel greasy at first but will be absorbed by the leather unless you use too much. I let mine dry for 24 hours after.

I agree with saddle soap. But dont scrub too hard. if the leather is drum dyed it ll the way through and you could scrub hard. But it its surface dyed(cheaper) then you could scrub through the dye. Fox Creek leathers carries all that lether stuff.

Same thing happened to me one time. I got behind a dump truck hauling something that i think may have been Sh$@. I had specked stains all over my leather. It came off the bike easy , but i had to scrub the leather.
Glad i had a windshield. |

Ah, the captain strikes again!
I may be banished for this suggestion, but go to a Harley shop. They have some really good leather-care products. Makes sense, since they sell more leather than iron. ::) Hey, who said that?

ANother really good place for leather care products is a western store or a farm supply store. The farm and fleet supply stores around here have the best quality leather products. But CJ is right, if you can't find it anywhere else the HD shop is a guarantee.

I will echo the suggestion of saddle soap. It has always worked well for cleaning (and conditioning) my leathers.

A leather craftsman once told me that a regular bar soap rubbed on the brass snaps and zippers helps to keep them clean, smooth and free of corrosion.

Ive used a leather cleaner by Harley Davidson, and found it quite good, it cleans and treats the leather, and helps waterproof as well. I had some given to me once to try and was rather impressed with it. It comes in a small tub for about $8.00 or so. Ive since bought some more and use it on my bike seats, and leather jacket, gloves, boots etc.

find out what sort of leather it is, analine, semi analine, top coated or selected grain. They all have different cleaning methods. Analine being the most softest and the most difficult to clean, it is leather in its most natural form, clouored and thats about it. Semi analine has a wax coating. Top grain and selected have a lacqure coating more easier to clean. Rember to treat leather like your skin.
