oil filters
Hello and welcome 'redud', I purchased my Nomad last year and have done two oil and filter changes. First with a Kaw filter at around $12. I went to PepBoys near me that now carrys motorcycle oil and saw that they carry filters for bikes and I purchased one for around $7. I removed the K filter and they were all but identical except for the printing on the filter and the PB filter had a perforated metal band in addition to the fluted paper that you can see when looking down in the mounting hole. Since I change frequently I am going with the PB filter as I am not trying to stretch out the changes.

Take a look in our Tech section it should answer a lot of questions for you. Heres a start on some oil filters. I always liked the Wal Mart filter best.

These are the 3 widely used A/M filters PUROLATOR PL14612, BOSCH 3300, ST7317 - wal-mart. The ST7317 has excellent reviews.

I use the Purolator "motorcycle" filter. I get them thru Amazon.com. I think they sell for $6-$7 each. They used to come in two packs but now they come in single packs. I think you get free shipping with a $25 dollar order. I don't have access to the part # right now but they are the same ones used on the 1500 Goldwing. My dad and I usually split the order.

Welcome from the Grand Canyon State and congratulations on your purchase. That's a fine looking Nomad and it being black, is the fastest color! I used the Bosch 3300 filter (about $6 at Autozone) in my 2007.

Welcome from NW Georgia, here is a list of some of the filters that work. When you see the short or long, that refers to weather or not you have the "goat bladder" (cad. converter). If you still have the factory exhaust, it has the "goat bladder", and you will have to use the short filter.
Oil Filter Purolator Pure One (short) PL-14612 Purolator Pure One (long) PL-14610 Wix (short) 51358 Wix (Long) 51356 NAPA Gold (short) 1358 NAPA Gold (Long) 1356 Bosch (Short) 3320 Bosch (Long) 3323 Mobil 1 (long) M1-110 SuperTech (Long) ST7317

Welcome to the best site, and the best bunch of people going.
Along with a filter one of the many tricks, tips, whatever, is to add a small rare earth magnet to the outside of the filter once you've installed it. Supposedly this will collect any microscopic ferrous metal in your oil against the inside of the filter, which will be discarded next time you replace the filter. I have lots of these magnets so if you want a couple, pm me your mailing address and I'll mail them to you (as soon as our postal strike is over). Offer stands for anyone else too :-) Regards, Gary |
