Voyager Mirror issues

Hi All:
I am new t the group and this is my first post so please be gentle. I have a new 2011 Voyager which I am getting used to and which needs a few modifications. I will start with the mirrors. I am a big guy and find that the distance from the centerline of the handlebars to the outside edge of the mirrors is a lot less than my 06 Nomad and I wind up look at my shoulders in the mirrors which is not great for safety. Anyone encounter this issue and have any suggestions on how to correct this problem. I saw a 900 custom the other day and it looked like it's mirrors were about 2" wider which would help some. If I buy new mirrors I only want to buy once.
Issue #2--I have the Cobra TriOval slip on mufflers on my bike and I am encountering some backfiring/popping during decelleration. It's not a huge problem but if there is a quick inexpensive fix then I would be interested. I had a 2001 Nomad which I put V&H bagger dual on and wound up with the same backfiring problems. I was able to block of the reed valves with a plastic plug in the air box and that eliminated the backfiring. Not sure about the Voyager.
Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Jimbo

Regarding the mirrors. Make sure they are adjusted to that they are outboard as far as possible. Mine were adjusted in line with the handlebars when I got the bike.

Also, you can pick up mirror extenders that push them out and up an inch.

I'm sure others will chime in with replacement mirrors.

Welcome. Please be sure to stop by the "New Member Introduction" area and tell us a little about yourself.

I'm sure you can find larger mirrors, they come in all shapes and sizes.

With regard to the exhaust - you first need to make sure you have no exhaust leaks. I'm guessing the tri-ovals are just slipons on the stock exhaust pipes, so make sure the muffler clamps are tight on both pipes. Make sure that there's no leaks around the header clamps (where the pipes meet the heads) as well. Even a small leak can cause decel popping as you describe.

Welcome from Ontario, diferent mirrors may be required, perhaps you could bend the stem to make them more user freindly.

You can even go to eBay and find mirror extenders for your current mirrors and if that does not extend them out enough, then go and buy a different pair of mirrors that have a wider horizontal view and put onto the extenders, that should surely work for you.

I use Vulcan 900 Custom mirrors on my Voyager and they work great. And they look (amazingly) like original Kawasaki parts.

Mirrors

Had the same problem, couldn't see around my wifes shoulders when she was with me. got wider mirrors but that wasn't enough so I got mirrors with longer stems and used them with the wide mirrors. Success!

P.S. got the mirrors on ebay

Well you can buy mirror extenders for sure, some replacement mirrors are cheap and flimsly and vibrate, found the better quality ones good for replacing your OEMs. Here is a pair that will give you wide horizontal viewing and they come in Chrome or powder coated BLACK. which I have decided to put on my Black Vaquero.

If you need a wider viewing area so you do not see you shoulders all the time, check them out at: http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/wi.../BM-KS-A45BCNC

Hey Rick:

Saturday was a great ride with good folks. I am still on the hunt for mirror info since I was steered in the direction of this site. Send me an email when you get a moment.

I agree with you 100% on the mirrors. My Nomad mirrors were great but with my new 2011 Vaquero I can hardly see around my elbows. Come spring I'll have to overcome this issue in some manner. Biggest concern is safety.
