Texas Motorcycling Perspective Adjusted
Well, I headed from Dallas to San Antonio today. Stopped for lunch as I rolled into town. Shortly thereafter a bunch of Nomads pulled up out front and the riders rather forcefully joined me for a “chat.” Western types, wouldn’t say their names, except the leader. He mumbled something that sounded like “It’s in lights on your odometer.” (Now I ask you, what kind of parent names their kid ‘Odo”?) But you know the type. You’ve seen them in movies: Steely-eyed hard cases who fork their own broncs. Men to ride the river with with. Except these had do-rags and a couple helmets, instead of Stetsons. I guess you could say they were a friendly bunch, real helpful too, in fact they stayed right here to watch me type and post this.
So, here is today's ride report for you northerners: The ride absolutely was not a 270 mile work zone with a speed limit of 65 where it wasn’t 55 or 60, crammed full of trucks, and with clouds scraping the ground such that I couldn’t tell if it was raining or the clouds were just piling up on my faceshield. Nosiree! Nothing like that today, after all this is TEXAS, the Lone Star State. EVERYTHING WAS BEE-YOO-TEE FUL! Sun was shining, cattle and deer were frolicking on the range, and at every ranch house a cute little gal in a calico dress poked her head out, waved and shouted “Howdy.” I even saw the watering holes today. They’ve got them all: Chili’s, Taco Bell, Taco Cabana, Texas Road House, Schlotski’s (I know, it doesn’t sound southwestern, but hey,the motif clearly is green, red, and white). You can even stay at La Quinta Inns. Gosh, don’t you just love being in an area with so unique and rich a cultural heritage! I even got to go 70 mph on a couple stretches of Work Zone 35. Yippy-ki-yi-yippy-yippy-yi! Well fellas, that cover it well enough? (They gave me a thumbs-up, so I guess I’ll post it.) Albuquerque or bust tomorrow. Nomads sure are great bikes! dank

Dank,
You can tell us the truth later. Everyone outside of Texas knows that those comments could only be posted when a gun is at your back. ::) Glad your trip improved. Would like to see some of that rain up here.
