Thumbs Up Phoenix AZ Riders

The Arizona Precision Motorcycle Drill Team is conducting an enhanced riding skills class starting Thursday Night October 4. It runs from 7 to 9 p.m for 6 weeks. Best of all its free.

I have taken this class several times and it has greatly improved my riding skills. It is probably one of the best around.

You can get the info and registration form at azdrillteam.org

Or shoot me an e-mail.

The course is fun but intense, its open to all riders, all styles of bikes, and all skill levels.

I highly recommend every one in this area consider taking one of these.

One of my riding buddies has taken this course a couple of times. I'd like to do it, but with my on call schedule, I would have to miss too many sessions.

CJ: Its not mandatory to make every session. Some people come and plug in for one or two, each session practices different skills. One of the riders works for Verizon, and because of his on call status and shift changes he usually only makes about 3 out of the 6 sessions. So he keeps coming back. Over time he has plugged into all the sessions more than once.

All you have to do is let the instructors know what is going on. Of course there are always about 3 or 4 riders that come the first night and never come back. And these are usually the ones that need it the most.

I just don't want to do it if I can't make all the sessions. If you have done the classes before, do you remember a tall blonde guy on a blue Road Glide? That was my friend Tom.

I don't remember the tall guy, but if he did the classes last fall or spring I probably saw him.

I understand about wanting to catch all the classes.

The Drill Team usually puts on a one day spring session in April too. Its held on a Saturday.

I skipped the spring one day class because it was 105. Too damn hot to spend 8 hours on a bike riding slow in a parking lot without any shade.

The night courses are cooler temp wise, obviously, but also because the lighting is not great it requires a higher level of concentration due to the darkness. That carries over to day time riding. Makes things easier when you can see and judge distances.

The Drill team practices every Monday night year round and they don't cancel due to temps, only if its raining hard do they call it off. Thats only one or two days a year.

Darn, wish I could make it. Probably will not be back in Chandler until the first or second week of October. I have heard about the course and it definitely sounds like it would be worth while.
