Lost biker

This story appeared in the local paper today. Mounties are searching for a Quebec motorcyclist who vanished in Cape Breton on Thursday.

RCMP in Victoria County say Francois Brodeur, 55, was last seen on his purple Harley-Davidson heading south toward Ingonish along the Cabot Trail at about 12:30 p.m.

He was travelling with a woman who was riding another motorcycle in front of him and didn’t see him disappear.

“He’s somewhere between Pleasant Bay, in that area, and the Bay St. Lawrence Road,” RCMP spokesman Sgt. Alain LeBlanc said.

Brodeur is six feet tall, weighs 240 pounds and has grey hair. He was wearing a black helmet, a black jacket and either black rain pants or blue jeans.

Additional info. RCMP are continuing their search for a Quebec motorcyclist who seemingly disappeared without a trace while travelling on Cape Breton's Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia on Thursday.

Francois Brodeur, 55, an experienced rider, was travelling with another rider on the Cabot Trail who was on a different motorcycle ahead of him.

"In my many years of policing, I have never actually seen an incident like this," said RCMP Sgt. Alain LeBlanc.

"It’s my understanding that there were two riders riding together, and that the lead rider was keeping an eye on [Brodeur], and then a few minutes later, she looked back and then the man was no longer there. Of course, we patrolled the area extensively to look for him or the bike, and so far, it’s been negative."

Brodeur was last seen around 12:30 p.m. in the North Mountain area while travelling south from Pleasant Bay to Ingonish.

A Department of Natural Resources Helicopter is helping with the search Friday, LeBlanc said.

Brodeur is six feet tall and 240 pounds, and has grey hair. He was last seen wearing a black motorcycle helmet and a black jacket.

Brodeur is riding a purple Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and speaks French and limited English.

Police are asking motorists who were travelling through the North Mountain, Big Intervale and Cape North areas and who may have seen Brodeur to contact them at (902) 295-2350.

Must have swerved to avoid something and ended up off the road. Hopefully they'll find him still alive.

I would think having rode the Cabot trail that depending on the spot, he could have been forced off or rode off the road and ended up in the ocean.
Hope they find him ok.

I agree Norm I think he is in the water. There have been more motorcycle accidents this year on the trail for some reason. Plan to do it in September if I have the time.

RCMP say a Quebec motorcyclist who seemingly disappeared without a trace while travelling on Cape Breton's Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia Thursday has been found safe in New Brunswick.

Francois Brodeur, 55, an experienced rider, was travelling with another rider who was on a different motorcycle ahead of him on the Cabot Trail.

Following a ground and air search, RCMP determined Brodeur was in Oromocto, N.B. — nearly a seven-hour drive from where he was last seen.

Sgt. Alain LeBlanc said in a news release police want to speak to Brodeur to "confirm the events that occurred after he was reported as missing yesterday."

"In my many years of policing, I have never actually seen an incident like this," said RCMP Sgt. Alain LeBlanc, prior to Brodeur's re-appearance.

A Department of Natural Resources helicopter and a ground search and rescue team had been helping with the search Friday, LeBlanc said.

LeBlanc thanked search crews, the public and media for their help to find Brodeur.

She was probably riding a Victory Boardwalk and he was on a Nomad and couldn't keep up. Don't ask how I know this may piss someone off

As the song goes, "There must be 50 ways to leave your lover . . . " Guess this makes it 51.
